Mystic Aquarium Mystic Aquarium News

Mystic has updated their website. The best part of the updated website is that they list all the species they hold! This is the first aquarium I know to do this. I am extremely excited about this development. I look forward to comparing it to my own list that I have compiled and to use it to identify unsigned animals and to look out for species listed that I haven't seen yet.

Shedd Aquarium has an extremely detailed app. They list species on-exhibit by tank. It's extremely useful, however it sadly has also made them no longer care about physical signage.

How accurate is the list? They list Grey Seal but was just there this weekend and didn’t see them. I know most of the amphibians though are off due to the renovations.

They have an off-exhibit seal pool and the seals get to choose where they want to go.

Yeah the aquarium's Instagram has confirmed that they are going to have a permanent Grey Seal now in addition to any rescues they sometimes periodically get. Which is always fun since that means that Mystic is now up to 6 permanent Pinniped species.

The list appears to be quite accurate but I wish they also included scientific names. I am still comparing my list to theirs and I need to visit again soon. The Gray Seal has a heart defect so I am uncertain if it will be on exhibit. They also list a lot of reptiles then what has been on exhibit so I assume most of those are ambassdor animals.

According to a recent Facebook post, the Mystic Aquarium has acquired a female zebra shark and she is in the touch pool. The video shows that she is rather small so possibly an adolescent. No information other than what I have written is included in the post and the video is similarly void of any elaboration but I'll include a link anyway.

Does anyone know the current population of fur seals at the aquarium? I’m working on a population list.:D

I started it awhile ago and just wanted to confirm their population, but I guess if there is no need I won’t post one.

Three holders total with population of 13 - I forgot the non-AZA in my first post. 6 at Mystic plus 4 at their offsite, 2 at Seattle, 1 at Ocean World (Crescent City, CA)

I'm not sure if Ocean World still has one. Their website only mentions sea lions and harbors, and that's all I've ever found in photos and videos of the place. They don't seem to have any social media and have very little online presence.

Edit: Finally found their facebook! Not seeing any fur seal photos.
