What does everyone collect Zoo related ?

I wonder if that was the one I just got outbid on earlier tonight :p

Was it called 'The Rare Ones'? If so, guilty as charged. :p

I'm not entirely sure when it was from though (I have seen one of the photos from the cover in a book on Colchester's history, which was taken in around 1969), so that will be fun to see.

Yep :P and in answer to your other question, I believe it is from 1972 per the information on the master list of UK guidebooks maintained by the Bartlett Society.

I'm incredibly amused by you getting your first guidebook by outbidding @TeaLovingDave, who has well over 1k :D

i collect maps but sadly some zoos are starting to go digital....
I do the same thing, and have noticed that a lot more zoo’s have gone digital, or at one zoo I was given a laminated map that was returned at the end. I also like to collect a magnet from each zoo, and the membership cards from zoos I join when they have them

Just postcards. Nowadays I only buy them occassionally off the internet and can't remember the last time I actually bought one in a zoo. Less and less zoos still sell them and where they do, the choice has usually become very limited and I feel the modern change of style is not great either. Backgrounds have largely disappeared so the card could be anywhere unless its got the zoo's name plastered all over it- which most have! I favour mainly the colour card era from the 1950-80's, also usually still a lot less expensive than the really antique historic ones.

I mainly collect zoo guides/books and zoo related books. Looking on ebay, I have seen a 1937 Dudley zoo guide book(the first one)for sale, the asking price £595,I cannot imagine anyone paying that, although postage is free (£1-50),big of them. I currently own two of these and I paid less than £100 for both of them. Has anyone else seen such exaggerated prices for zoo memorabilia?

I definitely wouldn't say I'm a collector but I've started to hold onto my maps* when I visit a collection along with the list of species that I've seen on my visit. These are all kept in plastic wallets, alphabetically sorted in a folder.

*If no map is provided or at a cost I'll print it out if I'm able to find the map online.

Hello.

I want to collect maps, but Brazilian zoos don't distribute or sell them anymore. On the other hand, I bought a lot of miniature animals at the zoo, especially in Lisbon.

Just wondering really is there collectors out there of what zoo related guidebooks, postcards, posters etc
I collect baseball caps, vintage postcards, and animal figurines, especially of various birds. If I can swing it, I'll post a couple of pics here.

I unfortunately collect mugs from the zoos and aquariums I have visited. It started out innocently enough, but it has quickly gotten out of hand over the past couple of years  I wish I would have picked something that is cheaper and takes up less space, but here we are :p

I used to always try and get a snow globe from the gift shops but I moved on to fridge magnets.....
We have started with snow globes, my wife likes plush sloth and I also get a patch but the snow globes are our collecting bug.

I would love to see a photo of your snow globes
