Savannah Cats

Hi, I spend a lot of time out in the bush, there are some huge feral cats out there.
The damage they cause cant be argued against. I cant believe that anyone would want to introduce an animal that will become another pest to our already suffering wildlife.

Hope someone sensible puts a stop to this.

Personally i do not want them here. I have no problems with domestic cats that are looked after well, de-sexed and kept inside at night, but i do agree that we have enough problems with feral cats without adding more. If people just looked after their animals and got them de-sexed we wouldn't have half as many problems

Sorry to bring this up again but recently was talking to someone, in Australia. They said they wanted a pet wolf. I told him that I didn't like his chances and he told me I'd be surprised. He said he's looked into the laws and it might be possible. . . how so?

"To date, Australian law has not anticipated the importation of such hybrids, and follows the USDA model to consider such animals 'domesticated'. This loophole will allow the animals to be imported. . ."

I then did some research and found that there are pups for sale in the united states. wolf hybrids, of up to 90% wolf. Do you think this means it may be possible for the general public to import such animals. These hybrid wolves start at just $400 USD.

What do you think?

I guess it depends if they are considered to be Canis familiaris (allowed in), Canis lupus (listed by the Vertebrate Pest Committee as Extreme Threat Category - "These animals should not be allowed to enter, nor be kept in any State or Territory") or hybrids.

Personally, I don't like any private individual's chances of getting a permit to import them.

Yes, we Americans have lots of wolf hybrids and also lots of exotic animal rescue centers with them because of the problems. At least one center in New Mexico and one in Southern California devoted exclusively to unwanted wolf and wolf/dog hybrids.

As for savannah cat, as far as I know there are none feral in U.S. due to their expense. But that doesn't mean it couldn't happen... For an interesting look at cat cross-breeds, visit THE MESSYBEAST.
