Yorkshire Wildlife Park Yorkshire Wildlife Park News 2023

The cost could be part or wholly funded by charging partners though it’s the infrastructure cost that’s the bulk of the investment.

Would be nice to see them at more zoos though I’d hope for other funding than the zoos to bear all of the cost as it’s pretty substantial. Most zoos don’t have the resources. Grants and partners could be a good way in though.

In some cases the size of the power required will be a hold up for remote locations.

Over time I suspect we will see more places with them. If visiting YWP and coming from the A1 South sort of area though I’d recommend Blyth services fast chargers if you can’t get on the zoo ones. Only 10 miles away and a nice setup.
I regularly use the chargers at YWP and it is rare not to be able to get one free. Someone did mention they are planning to get many more installed soon including some super fast ones so fingers crossed that happens.

Visited YWP this week for the first time in a couple of years. Had a decent day despite the cold, although most of the small primates seemed to be shut indoors, including the howler monkeys, I assume due to the weather.

There was some work being done on the outdoor hyena enclosure so I didn't get to see them this time. It looked like they were putting up fencing.

No sign of the giant otters and the pools in their indoor area were empty. I checked back 4 times and didn't see any sign of movement so I'm not sure if they were being kept off show for some reason or I just missed them.

The bears and tigers were quite active. Also spotted Drake and both cheetahs (at different times). I saw a blur of leopard Kristen and her cub in the back enclosure but no real view as so far away. All three lions were outside.

We saw 3 maned wolves - does anyone know how many they have now? Last I knew they had 5 pups and the parents but I'm not sure if this has changed any?

Does anyone know what’s happening with Julie (the lion) are they going to find her a new freind or could they add the new rescue lions with her when they arrive

I remember on the website it used to (or still does) say that they have 70 species, which is way higher than what they actually have. Also Wikipedia says they have approximately 475 animals which is a lot higher than I would guess.

The website states they have

Built on a former riding school and small farm attraction, Yorkshire Wildlife Park has come along way since opening in April 2009. Now a dynamic centre for conservation and welfare, the park has over 250 animals with over 45 different species.
