Amur Tigers in Europe

Four Amur tigers were born at AquaZoo Leeuwarden on 15 June! This is the first time for the zoo. Parents are Vadim and Aïda. It is also the first litter for them.

They are two males and two females. From today, people can vote for names for the two males. You can choose between Argun, Gorin, Amazar and Bureya. These are all tributaries of the Amur River. Next week, names for the two females can be voted for.

At Zoo Wuppertal, 17-year-old Amur tiger Mymoza passed away last Monday. Over the last few days, she had less appetite than usual and also leaked saliva from her mouth. Because of her advanced age, kidney disease was first suspected. As medication for this did not help, she was put under anaesthesia for examination on Monday. Then it was discovered she had a tumour under the tongue. This was already so large that it made chewing and swallowing difficult. It was therefore decided to put her to sleep.

I've seen Blackpool aren't planning on breeding from the male rusty from longleat and Alyona their female. Anyone know why he's not been put somewhere else to breed?

Thanks!

Alyona has had two cubs in 2014 (One has since passed away) however, given her age, it is more than likely the zoo will wait for her to pass away before a new younger female is obtained for Rusty before any breeding commences.
