Hey guyz! Does anybody have questions about animals that reside at the Philadelphia zoo?? I'd love to tell ya all about this place I call my job. :D

Do you have current photos of the zoo? I would specially love to see photos of the Giant Otters and the new Big Cat Falls exhibit.

Hello there,

It is nice to know some zoo people are discovering this site too. We have some serious discussions here re zoos, captive-breeding and conservation and quite a few well informed forumsters that make lively discussions and postings on developments, births, deaths, transfers, breeding policies and masterplans in zoos all over.

So, please spill as much the beans as you can on Philadelphia Zoo. We would very much welcome any news and stuff from your side.

well, we are right now anticipating a baby prehensile-tailed porcupine any day now... we are trying to breed our orangs and red pandas, our new McNeil Avian Center is opening in May. We have alot going on!

I was looking through ISIS, and it shows that you guys have 2.6 Giant Otters and that 3 of those are recent births, is that correct? if so, when where they born?

Also, can any of the moderators put this thread in the Philadelphia Zoo section? Thanks.

Yeah, I have a question: whom do I have to bribe (or blackmail) at Philly Zoo to get a breeding pair of your Black-and-rufous elephant shrews? According to ISIS, you've got a dozen to choose from. ;)

Is the tree still in the Treehouse? And how is the Micronesian Kingfisher breeding going?

:)

@Sun Wukong. Two people, one thought, that's the same question I had also...

@Zoo Crew. Whats the Mc Neil Aviancenter ? Any special species behind the scenes ?

The McNeil Avian Center is a re-do of the old birdhouse. It has been gutted and expanded. There is a walk through tropical area, a theater and other learning experiences. Opens end of May '09

mstickmanp, we just had 3 females born in august.
the kingfishers will probably start up breeding when the avian center opens. :)

You can see them through a viewing glass of them that is there off exhibit area but arent out yet since they are not adept swimmers yet.

The Zoo celebrates its 150th years Anniversary this year, do they will publish a book with the zoo's history or a new zoo guide book ?

Does anyone know what is going on with the two elephants, Bette and Calle?
How long until they go to the new conservation center in Pittsburgh?
