Africa Alive and Banham Zoo Redundancies

It's terrible news for @TNT and all those affected by the loss of their jobs. The timing stinks, as the festive season is right around the corner. I suppose that from the perspective of the two zoos, the 10% layoff doesn't seem like much, but it's still devastating for those involved. Hopefully a lot of hard-working ex-employees can land on their feet in 2024 at other facilities. Best of luck!
 
I must admit, as has been commented on this forum and social media before but is now the time to majorly question the direction that ZSEA is going?

Their 10 year redevelopment plan, honourable as it is to focus on native species, will this save the zoo? Honestly, no is my personal opinion and I'd like to be proved wrong but without someone who understands zoos at the top, I do not think the future looks bright for ZSEA and I can foresee two once very consistent zoos not surviving long term. The recent turnover in staff and managers has been nothing but embarrassing and points to a significant issue at the top.

Thoughts with all the very good people who have been made redundant, I wish them all the best of luck.

I guess the new CEO would need to review the plans though there is funding etc attached so it’s not all a write off I’d imagine. But I’d say it probably throws things more into the air. I think it’s quite a cool plan myself but not sure I’m a majority! Edit though clearly laying a load of people off on the way there is not a good thing.
 
Banham zoo bird show team completed their last shift this morning.
The job cuts have been wildly criticised by visitors to the zoo, with some saying that they plan to boycott the park.Alot of visitors are saying that the bird show was integral to their visit and over 2000 have signed a petition to keep the show. A zoo spokesman has said that there is hope that the snow would continue in 2024..
This smackes of hypocrisy to me ,plus where are they going to get experienced staff from?
and I'm sure that this would have made the redundant staff feel even worse...Terrible!!

That's such a shame. Awful for the staff, who always provide such a great experience - like lots of other people it's been a highlight of my visits, seeing the vultures fly as a group for example is amazing. Wish them and the other team members well. I also wonder who will fly the birds as, outside the shows, the birds who do fly are used to going out and about, everyone seems to be losing out here.
