Planet Zoo Planet Zoo!

New Honestly the only complain I have on PZ roster rn is the lack of smaller mammals.
Dikdik, loris, tamarin, squirrelmonkeys, muntjac, mongoose, coati, marmot, chinchilla maybe (exhibit).

The lack of small mammals is odd, given they've proven it works fine down to the pretty small Meerkat and prairie dog. Perhaps the walkthrough exhibit function will see a few more included.

But also the lack of lizards? Wheres the chameleons, gecko's etc?

I've been saying this since early on, PZ's exhibit roster is baffling. They went to all the effort of setting up a proper herp exhibit function and for the most part have wasted the roster. Way too many classics are still missing - cobras, geckos, chameleons, pythons, etc.
Many species actually on the roster I don't feel live up to the potential or are kind of silly: the dung beetle is a cool idea but they're so small... I've looked up the Titan Beetle out of curiosity and the species is next to unknown, with various beetle keepers saying they'd not be worth keeping due to long invisible larval phase and quite short adult lifespan. Like who thought that species was better than a cobra or chameleon for a zoo game roster? Not sure why we needed two venomous Aussie snakes either - especially when all three other venomous snakes added are also brownish thicker-bodied snakes... I don't mind spotlighting some lesser known species, but at least first give us the basic favorites and then some variety please!

I did start writing this before Great Argus’s post was posted but I may as well say what I mean.

To be frank, while I do appreciate the fact that players can choose and see the terraria species they keep, exhibit animals are a Pandora’s box that leads me to disappointment. Sure it is better than what zt1 and zt2 had, but with the fact that we are only getting drip fed one new terraria species every update when there’s so many unique taxa and “basic” species (or a combination of both) we still don’t have in the game is quite irritating. The fact that we only have one size of tanks to choose from does not help either.

This line of thought starts with the fact that their DLC model is super flawed and they seem to not be able to get out of that formula (for lack of ambition). Would it be so difficult to provide 2 or 3 exhibit animals per pack? Since the introduction of walkthrough exhibits would it be so difficult to see one walkthrough species and a terrarium species per pack? Would be so hard to include one waterfowl or galliniforme species per pack (which would be just copy-pasted of the peacock)? Would it be so hard to have a 10 or 16-animal pack instead of 8? They are quite running out of new unique rigs, most of the basic animal groups are already included in the game, so from now on it is mostly clones of already existing rigs. Even if the price of the DLC would increase by 2 or 3 bucks, I believe it would be overall very welcomed by the community. And what about more types of rides or shops? We are stuck with the same since 2019... Animals are important for a zoo game but a DLC should be something a bit wider. But they have a quite narrow vision.

The Exhibit tank in the game is good enough to display small Rodents, Sengis, Loris and Pygmy Marmoset, the walkthrough exhibit can display Sugar Glider, Flying Squirrel, Tamarins and Squirrel Monkeys. But some of them require new models (like gliding species), we all know that the Frontier is lazy, and many small species are not highly demanded. For example, there is no Lagomorpha in the game currently, nor in the top 100 of META wishlist.

Agree, another odd thing is that Frontier offers 4 Spiders and all of them are Latin American species, probably Frontier staff don't know that there are Asiatic and African Tarantulas:p. Most players tend to focus on habitat species, so they don't really care about the baffling offer of exhibit species. There are so many unique and exotic Herptiles in North America but what Frontier selects is the American Bullfrog that we can see in the market:p

The Frontier doesn't want to spend much effort on birds since the walkthrough exhibit has been offered for more than one year and still no flying birds on the roster. Now we only have four Ratites, one Galliniforme, one Waterfowl, two wading birds and three Penguins in the game, while the bird species don't require flying mechanisms are way more than these, like Secretary Bird, Victorian Crowned Pigeon, Takahe, Kagu, Bustard, Ground Hornbill, Seriema, Pelican etc. Making feathers could be time-consuming, and many bird species are not in high demand, since only 15 bird species in the top 100 META wishlist (one is offered now, the Mute Swan). The terrarium exhibit roster is also rigid, which is restricted to creepy-crawly and herptiles, but Pgymy Marmoset, small Rodents, Sengis even Mudskipper and Moon Jelly can be nice ideas. Lack of competitor games is an important factor causing the lack of ambition and narrow vision. So the Frontier is not motivated to even clone one waterfowl or galliniforme per pack, let alone make big changes.

To be fair, the Hermann's Tortoise fits the underlaying theme better than any gecko, chameleon or cobra would. It feels like they were really going for a more temperate theme here with this Eurasian pack.

This game needs more monkeys. Baboons, guenons, colobus monkeys, leaf monkeys, crested macaques, spider monkeys, howlers, squirrel monkeys. Tamarins and marmosets perhaps for the WE.

They've never done a Taxonomy-based pack before, but a monkey pack would no doubt be a huge money maker for them.

Content creators have now been allowed to showcase the Eurasia Animal Pack online today - the biggest thing of note that hasn't been mentioned before is that the Malayan tapir has had a remodel. About time too - it was the only DLC animal that was a total reskin (just a paint job on top of the Baird's tapir).

I honestly never thought they would do this, a really good surprise!

Where did you hear about the malayan tapir remodel?

I don't think you've ever seen one in real life to think they'd do fine in such a confined space

This exhibit in Toronto Zoo used to keep at least two Pygmy Marmosets. It may not larger than the exhibit tank in the Planet Zoo which is 4m x 4m.

This is the Grey Slender Loris exhibit in Zoo Frankfurt, it is definitively smaller than the Exhibit tank in the Planet Zoo below, pay attention to the ratio btw the exhibit and visitors.

In fact, we only get 1 new Primate species from DLCs each year, White-faced Capuchin in 2020, Proboscis Monkey in 2021, Siamang in 2022 and Lar Gibbon in 2023, the Black-and-white Ruff Lemur is released through Anniversary update, not DLC. Making the models for Primates is time-consuming since they require a lot of complex movements such as climbing and swinging, some Primate species like Spider Monkey even need movement design of tails. The Frontier doesn't want to do that much work. Same reason explains why the Frontier offered Quokka not the more demanded Tree Kangaroo in the Oceania Pack.
