What are some unique and rare species in Japan?

Ah I see. Is it just me or does Japan keep the most commonly seen North American and European zoo species (for example African wild dogs, collared peccaries, clouded leopards, manatees, pudus ) outside of North America and Europe?

Is there still some rare hoofstock remaining in Japan? Also how much European species does Japan have?

Rare hoofstock that I saw in Japan: Japanese serow (Honshu and Shikoku localities), subspecies of sika deer (Ezo, Northeastern Honshu, Yakushima, Mageshima, Taiwanese), subspecies of wild boar (Japanese and Ryukyuan).

Zoorasia, Higashiyama, and Edogawa are the ones I know about, and Edogawa is the easiest to see them as well as being free to enter. Przewalski's Horse is in Tama Zoo and Zoorasia. Im pretty sure there are more facilities for both species.
Przewalski Horse in Japan
Chiba:
Tokyo Tama
Yokohama Zoorasia
Nagoya Higashiyama

I am not sure how many Przewalski horse historically exactly entered Japan, but if I am correct this included both Chiba Zoological Park and Tokyo Tama Zoo. I found the Praha Zoo website on
Takhi / Przewalski Horse (studbook), but the listings are incomplete. This list includes 2.2 records for Chiba ZP) and 1.2 for Tama Zoo and 0.1 for Yokohama. Both Chiba and Tokyo Tama have bred Takhi.

In 2013 the Tokyo Tama Zoo received 0.0.3 individuals from Mongolia to set up an ex situ conservation species program!

QOUTE: "The ITG was established by Christian Oswald with his friend Jean-Pierre Siegfried in 1999.
In 2013, at the initiative of the President of Mongolia, ITG organized an activity to raise Takhi horses and gave three young Takhi horses to Japan’s Tama zoological park. On the one hand this includes financial support and on the other hand collaborative activities were planned with ITG Mongolia to make the Przewalski’s horse better known in Japan and to emphasize the importance of their reintroduction to Asia." The 3 Przewalski horses came in from Wildpark Langenberg. Not sure about the sex / age composition in the 2013 export.

Can anyone list some North American and European species in Japanese zoos? Are the bobcats still present in Kobe Oji Zoo? Are the okapi and Barbary sheep still present in ueno zoo? Sorry if I’m asking too many questions

Do okapi and Barbary sheep still have a presence in Japan? I know that okapi are still being kept in Zoorasia and are they the only okapis in japan currently?
