Very sad news, I was really looking forward to finally seeing a ribbon seal. I want to say that I hope another individual is going to be displayed somewhere, but chances are minimal, and even if another is acquired, they may be kept in poor conditions. I'd rather not see them if they are to be kept in poor conditions.

It's possible to sea them on a boat cruise tour in the Sea of Okhotsk off of Hokkaido when there is sea ice, but still rare.

There needs to be a discussion about exhibiting sailfish. I am against it, but many Japanese are for it.

I agree. Fukushima should invest more in its research before it houses any. I don't want any more sailfish deaths from improper care by Fukushima.

What Fukushima is doing is just an exhibition project and consuming the Indo-Pacific sailfish (Istiophorus platypterus) with endangered status VU is inappropriate and outdated for modern aquariums. Those who are in favor of exhibiting them say that even if the Sailfish die, they can still be used as research samples, that more people will know about the existence of Sailfish, and that the knowledge gathered can be applied to exhibiting other large fish. However, this project is no different from exhibiting great white sharks, so why is it acceptable to exhibit sailfish? I think that many Japanese people's ethical views on animals are debatable.
