We went to Dudley yesterday.

To start off with, they have a new "pocket guide".
I'm guessing it's meant for 2024.
But, the print on the back says 2023, but the boyfriend went alone on Boxing Day, and they didn't have it yet, and we've not seen it before yesterday at all.

I posted a picture in the media section.


Main reason for the trip was to see the new baby Giant Anteater, and I was not dissapointed!
Mother was asleep, woke up at some point, and we then saw the baby crawl up onto the mother's back, which was just really nice to see, they know exactly how and where to really cling onto.

It was lightly busy, freezing (for me) but sunny, so all in all a very nice day.
All the animals apart from the Lions were out and about.

The latest Arctic Fox addition looks so adorable, being so "tiny" compared to the female.

The Snow Leopards have been separated again so it seems, the latch between both enclosures was closed (and also was like this on Boxing Day).

Also saw the little Civet! Hadn't seen her in months, was starting to think she might not have been there anymore. While the Binturong were very active, especially the little one, "bothering" his parents, hehe.

The new Bush Dog enclosure looks great, which lots of viewing windows. Will be great to see them being in the water one day.

The Red Ruffed Lemurs have moved enclosures, there's a sign on their old one saying it's empty/being re-done.
They are now where the Red Panda's used to be when their main enclosure was being re-done.

On a general side note, if anyone on here is willing and able to pick a copy of this up for me and post it up to the wild northern lands, let me know via PM :) and I shall naturally PayPal the cost plus postage!
 
Went yesterday. Wasn't there for long, about 2 hours.

I noticed the Titi Monkeys are gone. The glass is boarded up with a wooden panel, and the sign has gone too.
I don't tend to go there, so hadn't bit in that bit for months, so no idea how long it's been like that.

The young Binturong looked ill to me. Around his eyes was red/swollen, and he just looked really sad, while he usually is very chipper and active. Hope he's alright!

Whereabout in the zoo were the Titi monkeys last time? I can't remember if they were either by the Monkey house or in the Sloths enclosure. They still seem to be shown on the zoo's website so there's a good chance they could be off-show for all we know.

Last time I saw them they were upstairs, inside the "house", next to the Pygmy Marmoset.

I didn't go down there on Friday.

From the week before, all I can say is there was work equipment in the area.
I'm not the best person te ask I'm afraid, I only go that far out to see the black lemurs :confused: and never really pay too much attention to the chimps.
 
When I went last week, the little one wasn't anywhere to be seen. I know it had been born, as a few days earlier the entrance was closed with a sign on it.
But since I didn't see it last week, I didn't want to mention anything here, just in case.
Will have to head back now this week.

Did the previous male die?,can't remember seeing any information on him
 
Nice quiet visit yesterday morning.
Didn't see the baby Pygmy Marmoset, only the male was visible.
But turns out I "saw" it on my last visit, with going through picture again today to get rid of bad ones, I noticed a tiny head, hidden away in mom's fur, lol.

The baby Anteater was very active while mom was asleep.
Jumping and walking around the enclosure constantly.

The Flamingo enclosure was a construction site, not sure what they are doing?

The Arctic Foxes, where as before, the female would chase after the male, it's the other way around now. It's quite funny to see, a small 10 month old running after a much older/bigger female, hehe.

And I love watching the Wolverines, they are so active and fun to watch. The female usually running around, the male lying on his back relaxing and looking silly, hehe.

When on my own, I don't tend to stay for a long time, as I'm by public transport, and want to beat rush hour on the busses.
But still, always a nice time out going regardless.
 
Piece of January 2024 News Not Mentioned:

On January 17th, the zoo announced that (0.0.5+) Peleng stick insects (species not specified) hatched.

On February 2nd, the zoo announced that they renovated the cotton-top tamarin exhibit inside the Small Primate House, installing new climbing frames, ropes, and an upgraded UV and heating system.

Fun day out at Dudley today, sunny and cold and lots of active animals. Not too busy visitor wise.

Lots of interaction between the arctic foxes. Nice to see the baby Pygmy Marmoset. The orangutans ventured outside which was nice given the weather. Had great views of the bush dogs from the viewing platform without glass, playing with a ball. That platform is a good photo location (the other viewing is all glass which was a bit wet).

The update in the chimp enclosure has been completed (doors were open for them to go outside if they wanted to) and a lot of work has gone into creating a sizeable replacement for the old climbing frames (which were large in themselves). New frames, platforms and fire hose beds / swings and a new pond are all in place. Took a panoramic from the higher viewing window (opposite the black lemurs) and added a few photos to the gallery.

The leafcutter ants were back in their area (empty last time I was down there), nice lit pipes from their main space around the chimp indoor viewing area to two other spaces, fun to watch.

New reindeer area is under construction opposite the farm area on the road down to the Chimps, with a new house being built, drainage being dug and there's a new fenceline at the far end near the Tecton.

The chairlift is having it's annual maintenance so the Gelada house and outside in the area in the middle, nearest the work was signed empty with the two groups on the right hand side behind the play area and the left hand side on the way up the hill to the owls. Very active mating going on in the right hand group and lots of playing up and down the hill.

Changes continue in the small primate house with the black and white lemurs vacating the end enclosure for building work (signed empty, they are next door), the coppery titi monkeys are back visible next to the marmosets.

The new Reindeer enclosure, is it going to extend near to the tecton building, if so I guess that would not put the proposed bears ravine being used for any bears going back there
