Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo Beardsley Zoo News 2024

Just thought I would start a new thread for the new year! Here's some updates from a visit this Tuesday:

- Pipoca the ocelot's former exhibit is now home to the red-rumped agouti that was living in the little river area in the next room over. It's quite bittersweet to look in and see that her little crate she used to laze about in has not been moved and is still in the top of the tree
- The empty enclosures for tiger, bald eagle and Goeldi's monkeys remain empty, and I found it surprising that there is no notice on the latter two that rennovations are being planned
- Construction is well underway at the prairie dog exhibit with a new wooden archway being constructed at the tunnel entrance
- Charlotte, the baby black-handed spider monkey, is gaining more and more independence from mom as she swings and climbs while beginning to use her tail more. Janet seems to be encouraging her to climb up to her herself rather than picking her up all the time, and it's actually really adorable and interesting to watch

Another visitor at the zoo told me that the zoo recently got a new female maned wolf and sent away there female. Does anyone have any idea of what individual may be the new one.
Ah man, huge bummer as I loved Guapa a whole lot, but makes sense as Goncalo and Guapa were siblings. Would love to see pups there one day!

On January 26th, the zoo announced they acquired a (0.1) maned wolf named Fiona from the Greensboro Science Center in North Carolina which is on exhibit.
