Six Flags Wild Safari Six Flags Great Adventure news

I thought Lucy was more than 51(like around 60-65 ish) because a few years ago Safari tours told me she was in her late 50s already and has a giant notch in one of her ears for a long portion of her life.

According to the North American regional studbook, Lucy was born, approximately, in 1971, and was imported by Six Flags Great Adventure on March 1, 1974. Lucy was imported alongside 1.0 Rip, 0.1 Barbara, 0.1 Debbie, 0.1 Gloria, 0.1 Sheila, and 0.1 Tina.

Six Flags Wild Safari, at Six Flags Great Adventure, has apparently changed their name. It's now Six Flags Savannah Sunset Resort and Spa.

Looks to be moreso just a new experience rather than a renaming of the entire Safari according to the website. I do see how that name could theoretically be confusing if there are lodges all throughout the park, especially with famous savannah dwelling animals like... Domestic yak. Llama. American black bear. Eurasian brown bear. Amur tiger. However, if it's all centralized within the African reserves, that shouldn't be an issue.

That's what I thought too, but they've changed all of their social media to be named after the Savannah thing, and they've removed all mention of wild safari from the website.

They updated their website again and changed it to Wild Safari Adventure, with the info about the sections back. The park is going back to using those big trucks, you can no longer drive yourself through. They haven't added the walk-through section back on, though. There's no opening date, other than 2024, so it doesn't appear to be opening the same day as the main park.

Does anybody know how many numbers of individuals for other species they have like giraffes, black bears, brown bears, lions, and tigers.

0.1 California sea lion Dichali was transferred from Six Flags Great Adventure to the El Paso Zoo on March 12th, 2025. She was born at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom (then called Marine World) on June 16th, 2006. The El Paso Zoo has also acquired ownership of Dichali.

SFGA now no longer houses this species.

I was wondering what are peoples opinions on this park in general. I know that they have previously been AZA accredited, but decided to not anymore. From what I have seen they appear to do a lot of breeding because of all the land they have. I have yet to go, but it a place I really want to visit as I am also a bit of a roller coaster nerd. (Hope this is the right thread to post this in).

They probably sell their excess into the private trade, they were notorious for doing that even back when they were AZA accredited.
Is that necessarily a bad thing I am guessing that is how they get a lot of the funding to continue caring for the animals due to the fact they are not the main draw of the park. I am not that looped into the private trade and am pretty new to all the zoo stuff. I get at some points it can be a little shady with the people they sell too. Is still a solid place in terms of animal care?
