Most exotic animals seen on the pet trade

those photos really look like a Ring-Tailed Coati(Nasua nasua) to me imo, might be mistaken identity.
The species is often called 'mountain coati' in the American private trade for little other reason than to give the impression of something rare or exotic.
Some major zoos in the past even signed 'mountain coati' on display... and these were ring-tails too

I think at this point they genuinely don't know, and don't seem to be bothered to research. I frequently see them signed as such outside USDA. One place had three coati exhibits - "mountain", "red", and "south american". All the same species just slightly different color morphs lol

Red coatis are the subspecies from Guyana I believe, a fairly recent introduction to the US pet trade.

Underground Reptiles had a Green Thornytail Iguana(Uracentron azureum) for sale. not a common species to see. despite it's common name it is a member of the Tropiduridae not Iguanidae - apparently someone already bought it.

Green Thornytail Iguana (Uracentron azureum) For Sale - Underground Reptiles
I know someone who actually bred those, instead of the wild-caught animals offered in the trade from time to time. They are a difficult species to settle in captivity, mainly because of their ant diet. I once transported 4 specimens that arrived as a gift from an import company. They died within weeks. Complicated species, but not impossible!

A youtuber recently got a Silky Anteater, never new it was possible to get these guys in the states
here's the video if you want to watch it, the Silky appears around the 19 minute mark, he is mostly talking and showing off a tamandua beforehand, the information is interesting though.

Just about anything is *possible*...

Or maybe almost always possible is more accurate- I don't know if I'd be more terrified, impressed, or dumbfounded the day I learn someone got a pet blue whale...

Well, it *is* possible. Just have to build a pool big enough (among other things).

They're actually sometimes captured as pets in South America, so I wouldn't be surprised if the YouTuber did that exact thing and smuggled it home.

Pretty sure they are legally imported to the USA occasionally - they certainly are to Europe. The guy in the video is Justin Igualada who appears to run either a zoo or an animal transfer business. He mentions that the Tamandua in the video will be going to some other zoo, and mentions how he would like to get Giant Anteaters for his own zoo. I may have misunderstood one bit in the video where he was talking about his friend who deals in reptiles, but it sounded like his friend is the animal importer.

Some googling came up with Justin Igualada (as of 2019) being curator at the "Jungle Queen Wildlife Center" in Fort Lauderdale.

From appearance the Silky Anteater in the video is C. didactylus.

I'd be surprised if it lives long. Silkies have a reputation of being difficult captives...
Still alive in December after several months (from his Instagram).
Justin James Igualada on Instagram: "Haven’t been able to post much lately as life has been crazy as per usual but it’s time to get back on the grind and what better way then with a meep update! Meep the silky or pigmy anteater may grow a tiny bit more but this is about full size. With a lot of research in my back pocket and reading up on these guys for months along with the rest of the species in this family she is doing wonderfully. We don’t see many of these and I’ve heard they don’t do well but lil meep here is crushing it about 3 months or more in and still doing what meep does best which is mostly sleeping and eating lol but how damn cute is that!! #tinyanimal #anteater #animals #animal #animallover #rareanimals #wildlife #wildlifeaddicts #wildlifewonder #nature #natureisbeautiful"

Sometimes being legally imported doesn't automatically mean this one was. He doesn't run a zoo, he's an exotics dealer who used to run a transport business; the social media for that are defunct. "Jungle Queen Wildlife Center" doesn't exist, that article is the lone google result for it. The one place I've managed to find that he did work at was a decade ago, at Seminole Okalee Indian Village. Even if he is working towards his own zoo or something, doing feeding videos from his young daughter's room isn't a good look.
