Visited HCC Today,
As I entered the HCC, the first difference I noticed was that only 1 Capybara was out. After asking a keeper, it turns out that the new male had passed away, leaving Mike by himself. After walking past the energetic Channel-billed Toucan whose planed parter has not yet arrived and having no luck spotting the Southern Aardwolf, I went round the path to the Straw Coloured Fruit Bats, where this time I had luck seeing them.
The Bolivian Squirrel Monkeys had moved exhibit to the old Rainbow Lorikeet enclosure, with the flock moving to a new collection. The Goeldi's Monkeys where in with a single Brazilian Prehensile-Tailed Porcupine and Two-Toed Sloth, no sign of the Nine banded Armadillo?
Going round the corner, I was surprised to see the Baby Porcupine sitting directly in the middle of the enclosure! Apparently this is the fourth baby at the Centre! It also seemed that the baby was being introduced to its roommates, the Black-Tailed Marmosets
Inside the Nocturnal Section, there were Grey-handed Night Monkeys in the first exhibit, is this new or is my mind playing tricks on me? The Ring-tailed Vontsira hadn’t yet moved, but it’s planed to move to America, with a breeding pair replacing it. The juvenile Ground Cuscus was also now mixed in with the Tasmanian Echidna
At the Bali Myna Aviary, the pair were very vocal and I noticed one individual having a few missing feathers around its neck.
It seems like the old Otter Enclosure is current empty. At the Ocelot Enclosure, there will be an expansion for the female and male so they each have their own enclosures.
The Rusty-Spotted Cats were very playful and the current Six-banded Armadillo will have an Aviary added onto the tree so that the pair of kinkajou can have access outside.
Unsurprisingly, there was no sign of the Javan Binturongs but the two Asian Small-clawed Otters were eating what appeared to be crab. After asking a keeper, it actually turns out that the third female had moved to Old Macdonald’s Farm. At the Maned Wolf Enclosure, Pablo was separated due to being on Antibiotics from an injury. The other three; Snoop, Marley and Carter, were out together in the larger enclosure. Apparently Snoop and Pablo are moving collections in the next 2 weeks, somewhere in the U.K and Carter is staying with his sister Marley for future switching and another new make will be joining for (fingers crossed) some pups.
