2 new giraffe arrivals

The boys arrived last night from Belfast Zoo and have settled in really well over night. They've been introduced properly to Robin and Ruedi this morning and they are already bonding beautifully as a tower.

Wingham Wildlife Park participates in and runs animal breeding programmes, and are expanding their conservation reach beyond their borders, with their latest in situ project involving the Crested Argus, a species which they do not have at the park. They have also started to carry out their own research, such as their long-term studies on giraffe and chimpanzee welfare, as well as short-term welfare studies for various invertebrates."

A miracle in time for Christmas A critically endangered Western Chimpanzee was born late Saturday/early Sunday morning here at WWP and is doing brilliantly with Mum, Tara. It is very early days and usually we wouldn't post so soon but we wanted to be the first to let you know, especially as Tara has got the little one out and about with her and the troop. We are thrilled to welcome this precious little one and will keep you updated on their progress and if they're a little boy or girl soon.

On January 7th, the zoo sexed the chimpanzee as (0.1). On February 15th, the zoo announced its name, Margaret.

Does anybody know how Jin, Molly and Belayan the Orangutans are getting on?

Last I was aware Jin and Molly were living next door to Belayan. With Jin and Belayan both being impressive, sizeable males on full view of each ther I worry about the living arrangements and how viable this is as a long term solution. I know the zoo will know best and have the welfare of the animals at heart but just wondered if anyone had any information on the current and future plans

I spent a very enjoyable day at Wingham yesterday; second time I have been and liked a lot of the developments. I am right in thinking the current giraffes are the original two from Woburn and the two new ones from Ireland, meaning that two came from Longleat and have both died? I still think there is a very obvious tripping hazard in the internal quarters.
 
Yes both males Evan & Ronnie(both born at Longleat 2016 & 2017 respectively) have both since died. You are also correct about the current males (2 from Woburn 2 from Ireland)
 
Would one say this is good place to visit?
Some of the species seem decently interesting ... but it's quite a distance to travel from myself ... and from what I see with the enclosures rather 'utilitarian'... I worry it'd be a distance for not too much !
 
I was there two years ago. We made a stop there before heading to Dover to take te boat. Ik was better then I expacted but the enclosures are indeed utilitarian and not much themed or beautiful. But they have a nice collection.
 
3 New Black and White Ruffed Lemurs have arrived saw them on the TikTok walk around the park does during the week.

The black and white ruffed lemurs girls can be found opposite our tigers and penguin pool, next to our capybaras on our lake. They are called Remi, Rhona and Dubh.

Meet Awan

We want to introduce you to Awan who is a 12 year old female Bornean orangutan. She arrived to us yesterday from Monkey World and is settling in nicely with Jin. Molly is also settling in nicely with Belayan next door.

She has been paired with Jin as decided by the studbook keeper. This is a significant step forward in Bornean orangutan conservation!

Please give her a warm welcome when you next come and visit us!
 
Piece of June 2024 News Worth Mentioning:

On June 8th, the zoo announced they reopened the renovated walk-through lemur exhibit to the public, adding in a new route through said exhibit, as well as new plants and climbing equipment. The zoo also announced they acquired (4.0) ring-tailed lemurs named Armi, Maki, Monty, and Scruff from Africa Alive in Suffolk in May.

On August 16th, the zoo announced they transferred a (1.0) Asiatic black bear named Baloo to the Five Sisters Zoo in Scotland.

On September 4th, the zoo announced that 3 slender-tailed meerkats were born on May 3rd which are on exhibit. The zoo also announced they built a new meerkat exhibit next to the original exhibit to house a different group.

On September 24th, the zoo announced that 2 more Humboldt penguins named Peri and Piccolo hatched.

On October 3rd, the zoo announced they acquired 76 Gooty sapphire tarantula adults as well as 75 juveniles recently which are behind the scenes.

The zoo have now announced that they hold Geoffroy's cat, which is quite a rarity in UK zoos these days. By my count, there are now three individuals in the UK, held at Wingham Wildlife Park, Hemsley Conservation Centre and Woodside Wildlife Park.
 
Wingham have announced the passing of one of their Tiger brothers, Blade

Wingham Wildllife Park on Instagram: "Blade: 28/02/2011 – 06/12/2024 We are very sad to announce that Blade has passed away at the age of 13 years. Blade arrived at Wingham Wildlife Park in 2011 at just a few weeks old. Along with his brother, Troy, the pair of young tigers were lovingly raised by the Binskin family and they have held a special place in our hearts ever since. As Blade was one of the older cats at the park, the team here have been monitoring his condition closely to ensure that he and his brother have the best quality of life in their later years. This week, we noticed a sudden and concerning deterioration in Blade’s health. Despite the best efforts from our experienced team of keepers and vets, his condition failed to improve. As such, the very difficult decision was made to put him to sleep this evening. We will fondly remember Blade as an excitable tiger who would do anything for an extra chunk of meat. When he wasn’t eating, he would love to rest on his platform; where you, our guests, could take the most beautiful photos of our gorgeous boy. We know that many of you will also be feeling this loss and we would like to invite you to share your favourite photos and memories of Blade with us in the comments below. Our attention now turns to Troy and ensuring that we continue to provide the best care possible for him. We will be monitoring him closely over the next few days and with the support of our dedicated keepers, we are confident that this loss will have a minimal impact on Troy. Caring for Blade has been a privilege for all of us here at the park and it is a comfort in this difficult time to know that he had a good life with us. We will miss him enormously."
 
this is bad news ive grown up with blade and troy all their lives . ive fed them had experiences with them etc. does anyone know what he died off cause 13 years old is not an old cat when some are living towards their 20.s in captivity

all they've advised is a "serious deterioration of health" that was within a week
