In addition to the new rhinos, the South Africa field exhibit has also welcomed a third Cape buffalo calf sometime this week.
There is now also a second Thomson’s gazelle calf in the East Africa field exhibit that can sometimes be spotted with its sibling and the rest of the herd.

It is quite a shame that it is a male calf because the AZA/SSP desperately needs more female Okapi calves.The Park announced today on their socials that a male okapi calf was born to first-time mother “Mahameli” on February 8th.

1.0 southern white rhinoceros “Bwana” has arrived from the Ellen Trout Zoo in Lufkin, TX, and is now quarantining in the East Africa boma.
0.1 greater one-horned rhinoceros “Shomili” has arrived from White Oak and has been released straight out into the Asian Plains field exhibit. This is a return home for “Shomili”, as she was born at the Park.
She died on November 1st, 2013 at SDZSP, according to the studbook.Off topic but whatever happened to Shomilis mom Sundari?
