I think a new breeding male is expected and/or has already arrived....
1.0 GOHR “Rupert” arrived from the Mesker Park Zoo back in the fall. He has been living in the Asian Plains boma since exiting quarantine.
It was shared in the Zoo Granby thread that the Park’s last 0.5 dholes have arrived in Canada. This marks the official phase out of the species from the SDZSP.

Looking good for calves in late 2025 or 2026. The adult females are Alta, Ananda and Tanaya and Joona. There should be one other cow too

Yes, that other cow is Lulu.
“Aluu”/“Lulu” is the name of the female GOHR calf born back in January, yes; however, @Kifaru Bwana was referring to an additional adult female GOHR the Park is due to receive…

The Lulu that I was talking about was born to Tanaya in April 2020, did she move somewhere?
She is at White Oak now.

The five female dholes have successfully arrived at Granby from a zoo in California. It was said before that they came from San Diego zoo. Une nouvelle espèce très attendue arrive au Zoo de Granby
@Kudu21, do you know the sire for Aluu/Lulu? Was Capone/Maza also her sire or was that their former breeding bull Bhopu?
“Capone”/“Maza” is her sire. “Bhopu” left for CCTU in January 2022.
3.0 southern white rhinoceroses have been introduced to the South Africa field exhibit. 2.0 “Edward” and “Arthur” have been moved over from the Nikita Khan Rhino Rescue Center, while 1.0 “Mwezi” has been moved over from the East Africa field exhibit.
In addition to the new rhinos, the South Africa field exhibit has also welcomed a third Cape buffalo calf sometime this week.
There is now also a second Thomson’s gazelle calf in the East Africa field exhibit that can sometimes be spotted with its sibling and the rest of the herd.

Is there any female rhino there? There are so many male rhinos. Will there be breeding for rhinos?
There are plenty of female SWRs at the SDZSP
There are 0.8 SWR in the East Africa field exhibit, 0.6 at the Nikita Kahn Rhino Rescue Center, and an additional 0.2 in the Central Africa field exhibit. These moves of some of the Park’s young males were made to establish a separate bachelor group and free up space in the two breeding herds.

It is quite a shame that it is a male calf because the AZA/SSP desperately needs more female Okapi calves.

1.0 southern white rhinoceros “Bwana” has arrived from the Ellen Trout Zoo in Lufkin, TX, and is now quarantining in the East Africa boma.
0.1 greater one-horned rhinoceros “Shomili” has arrived from White Oak and has been released straight out into the Asian Plains field exhibit. This is a return home for “Shomili”, as she was born at the Park.

She died on November 1st, 2013 at SDZSP, according to the studbook.
