They are Lake Patzcuaro salamanders (Ambystoma dumerilii), not axolotls.Axolotls (Ambystoma mexicanum).
Some nice new and interesting fish and inverts. The Zoo Schule diversity and exhibits are also most welcome and so damn attractive to see. Well done Zoo Rheine!!!Im the fromer koi aquairum in the bird house 3 new fish species exhibited.
Boeseman's rainbowfish (Melanotaenia boesemani)
Panda Garra (Garra flavatra)
And Anano Shrimp (Caridina multidentata)
I guess the isopod must be a rare species ...I forgott 2 things to mention. The great grey owls left the walk through owl aviary. Now it only houses snowy owls. And the fromer giant african snail exhibit in the insect house now houses a species of large isopod from spain. I could not remember its species, as I only realized it was a new species after leaving the zoo, so I did not document it.
I did some research on isopods kept in captivity. It is (Porcellio hoffmanseggi) .I guess the isopod must be a rare species ...
Have great grey Owls completely left the collection (the species is part of a Central European recovery effort elsewhere)?
Yea, I forgott to mention thatthey were in the back holding area. My guess would be maybe becuase the blackstorks are nesting right now. But I can can confirm the red-bellied lemurs were their at my visitHave visited Naturzoo myself as well today, for the first time and was really impressed! Lovely nature and great education!
Also can agree with everything GiratinaIsGod said, makes sense I did not see any cranes or haiwann geeses despite searching them 4 times then!!
Only other species I missed all day was the red-bellied lemur.
One more thing: the Abdim storks were not with the black storks but I did see them in a separate smaller aviary next to the black storks.
Recently the oldest resident in the zoo passed away, namely 55-year old male Common emu
(Dromaius novaehollandiae) Gockel. The zoo now only has a 16-year old female left, which will soon be accompanied by a new male.
