Giant otters in Europe

Visitors spotted at least one young giant otter at Zoo Zlín. The zoo itself has not yet communicated anything about cubs.
Meanwhile, the zoo has confirmed that three giant otters were born at the end of January. Parents are Dagget and Mora. The otter family at Zoo Zlin currently consists of seven animals, besides the parents and the three cubs, there are also the two males born in 2022.

Out of zoo thread range: COLOMBIA -giant otter
I have it on new information that a young rescuee Colombia a giant otter Kirpa was recently transferred from Zoologico de Cali to Piscilago (and that the latter or the former has another adult giant otter in Manuela - rescued +/- 6 years ago.

After cubs were also born earlier this year, two giant otters were born again at Givskud Zoo on 31 December. Parents are Rio and Parana. For the keepers, the birth came as a surprise; the otters showed no signs that young were on the way. Of course, it remains to be seen whether the cubs survive the vulnerable period, which is why the otters are also left undisturbed as much as possible.

3-year-old giant otter male Manú recently moved to Chester Zoo from Budapest Zoo. He now forms a pair with female Tibiri. It is intended that they will have pups together in the future.

As mentioned by @Okavango in the La Palmyre news thread, the giant otter couple Gata and Arni at Zoo de La Palmyre are expecting pups. A poster at the enclosure is said to announce the pregnancy.

According to a member of the French zooforum 'Les zoos dans le monde', there is a banner at Zoo de CERZA stating that they plan to keep giant otters.

Münster has received a new female AMÉRIE and she has chosen RIO between the 2 brothers,
so the second one moved to Duisburg.
Apparently the Allwetterzoo hasn't that sense of humor with KOVID & WIRUS and they changed the names given at Lodz… So now the question is: who is who?!

After asking Zoo Duisburg, I recently got the answer to this question. Male Lobo who now lives in Duisburg used to be called Kovid. And male Rio in Allwetterzoo Münster used to be called Wirus.

Good news from Argentina! A pair of giant otters consisting of two animals born in European zoos has had four cubs. The pair is part of the reintroduction project at Iberá Park. The parents are male Nanay from Parken Zoo in Sweden and female Ariranha from Zoo de Doue la Fontaine in France. The cubs are two males and two females. The intention is that they will be released back into the wild as a large family group in the future.

With the birth of the new cubs, there are now 13 giant otters participating in this project.

Earlier this year, a male giant otter arrived at Parrot World as a companion to Icana. According to comments from visitors I have seen on posts from Parrot World, his name is Barney. So it is probably a male from Zoo Leipzig. Although Parrot World itself hasn't said anything about this yet.

Parrot world has now confirmed that it is indeed almost 3-year-old Barney from Zoo Leipzig. Barney didn't come to the zoo for breeding purposes. He keeps the old female Icana company so that she can enjoy her retirement at Parrot World.

For years, AquaZoo Leeuwarden had a male group of giant otters, but that is about to change. Two of the three males will move to other zoos to make way for a female. She will then be paired with the remaining male. One of the males has already been moved to a zoo in Germany.

The male who moved is 8-year-old Nacho. He moved to Zoo Leipzig to be paired with the female Caria present there.

The other male is expected to move at the end of this month. Not much later, the new female will then arrive to be paired with the remaining male.

The 4-year-old giant otter male Rio (Wirus) at Allwetterzoo Münster has died. On Monday, he seemed listless. Examination showed he had gastrointestinal problems. Treatment for this seemed to be working. On Tuesday, however, his condition worsened. He was put under anaesthesia for further examination and treatment but he died during the anaesthesia. Investigations into his cause of death are still ongoing.

The new female has arrived at AquaZoo. I don't have 100% confirmation yet but it is most likely the three-year-old female Maya from Zoo Budapest. During my visit to AquaZoo yesterday, I already saw several (attempted) matings.
