Speaking of, I just heard the World of Birds is gonna reopen their second floor by the time it’s Memorial Day weekend. Can’t wait to see how the second floor and especially the ramp to the floor will look like!

Do you have a source for this? I will be visiting in June so I would love to get some confirmation.

The Bronx Zoo announced on Facebook today that they have now posted a collection of digitized old footage on their website, including early footage from the Bronx Zoo, from the old New York Aquarium, and various field projects. I've just watched some really fascinating footage of the Bronx Zoo in the 1930's, and figured others might be interested in perusing this collection too:

Honestly, I watched footage of that recently, and my favorite out of the many footage of the Bronx Zoo has to be concept art of what would eventually become Congo Gorilla Forest by 7 years back in 1993. Not to mention the World of Darkness exhibit finally has footage of what was inside being the nocturnal wildlife during it’s opening day in 1969!

I had my first visit here yesterday and it definitely made my number one spot for top zoos that I have visited. Here are some notes:

-Going to Congo when the zoo opens is a smart idea to avoid the crowds. To experience this amazing exhibit space alone is magical. The quiet atmosphere added to the serenity.
-The outside cages of Mouse House were being worked on and I saw no animals in any of them. I also must have skipped seeing the pheasantries on my way to Congo.
-Just as I was about to go into the giraffe house, a keeper walking in turned the sign around to "Building Close". I never went back during the day to see if it reopened.
-Maybe it was a good thing, but I somehow missed the leopard exhibit in Jungle World. Maybe the leopard was hiding, and I walked right past it?
-World of Birds building was completely closed. I was quite sad by this, but plan to return to the end of the summer when the second floor is reopened anyway.
-The red panda was on exhibit in the Himalayan section as stated in a previous post. The mother and cubs were in the Asia monorail exhibit, so this was either Linus or the other older red panda. If anyone knows them really well, it was the one who's fluffy tail is almost nonexistent.
-I feel like I missed one of the snow leopard exhibits, aren't there three? I only saw two. Also, by watching a video today there are two tiger exhibits in tiger world?! I missed the one with the deep pool.
-I saw the ibex in front of the Gelada exhibit and thought nothing of it and didn't look at the exhibit from other areas. So, I completely missed seeing any gelada (who must have been up the hill).
-Asian small clawed otters and squirrel monkeys were a no show inside the Children's zoo.

Reads like a disappointing trip as much of which you went to see was off exhibit ,under construction or unavailable still , your irrepressible, enthusiasm is an inspiration

Since when were there Asian small-clawed otters in the Children's Zoo? I remember these otters living in the first exhibit on the left inside JungleWorld.

Yes, there are two tiger exhibits in Tiger Mountain (plus one in the Wild Asia monorail).

I also thought I only saw two snow leopard exhibits, but actually two of them are just really close together and it looked like one exhibit to me the way the viewing windows were situated.

I did find it a little hard to find my way around the Bronx Zoo. I totally couldn't find JungleWorld at all (I went when the Monorail was closed and didn't realize you entered in the same place; I figured there was nothing down that way due to the Monorail closure), and apparently there was another chunk of African Plains that I bypassed.

I must have given off the wrong impression because I had a great visit! I was just noting things I missed because of my own stupidity. As for World of Birds, I looked forward to returning and seeing it all. Also, I now know areas/animals I need to be on the lookout for when I return.

They have an exhibit for them in the Children’s Zoo as well.

Are they still in Jungle World too? I saw their area across from the tree kangaroo, but it was empty. I assumed it was because I heard they moved to the Children's Zoo.

They have them both out at the same time, they don’t move them over. There’s a chance they were hiding in a log in the exhibit, I’ve missed them a few times due to this.

Very strange to see WOB closed when on the website it says it's open.

When I used the zoo map app, it popped up that Jungle World was closed for the day, but luckily that was not true. I went to both entrances to World of Birds and each had a sign saying it was closed for the day. Hopefully it was just a one day thing.
