The bison at Marineland are missing. Their enclosure is empty. Rumors said they were sent to slaughter. I think the only holders in Canada are Toronto zoo and High Park Zoo. Where can they go?

Someone told Phil demers about the bison saying that the bison were sent to a meat farm. Sadly the bears at Marineland could not go to Toronto. They were thinking about sending the bears to Toronto but the idea might not happen. new bison news

Just out of curiosity, were Marineland's bison Plains or Wood bison?
Both varieties are commonly raised on farms and ranches for meat, so it definitely wouldn't surprise me if an enterprising bison rancher offered to take Marineland's herd off of their hands.

Poor bears. Where are they likely to end up if not at Toronto? Marineland isn't exactly known for it's stellar husbandry or groundbreaking habitats, but I would hate for the bears to end up at a worse place. What's the unaccredited zoo landscape like in Canada?

Generally speaking, in the US, that sort of thing is left up for the individual states to decide. There's always ways to get around the rules that the individual states put in place, but canned hunting is really only strongly associated with Texas. With, you know, the "Texotics" ranching industry and all.
I didn't think that Canada had anything like that.
Yeah, I was really asking if roadside zoos were as big of a "thing" in Canada like how they are in the US.
I've been under the impression that Canada had significantly stricter exotic animal ownership laws than the US on a whole does. Is that not the case?

There is trophy hunting in Canada, people pay to kill bears, horn sheep, and many more. In Ontario, you do not need a license to open a zoo. There is no federal laws that protects them. Other provinces are more stricter than Ontario. There are around 30 roadside zoos in Ontario.
Again this is just a rumor. I am not sure about this. We cannot trust Phil Demer guy. We need to have the confirmation of a real proof. I think I will end my discussion about this topic. I do not want to spread fake information. If anyone wants to trust the news then you can. I want to create a new thread that talks about Canadian zoo and aquarium spectulation.

What it looks like in Marineland after it got sold. A lot of attractions were closed. Tickets were reduced. No more bears and deer. The guy asked what had happened to them, but there was no response. It is like a normal park now.

It's only a matter of time until the dolphins and belugas get transferred out, hopefully sooner rather than later. I'd bet talks between Marineland and other facilities are already occurring.
I wouldn’t be surprised either, but I anticipate they will go to Asia unfortunately and not to US facilities. No permits seem to have been filed as of yet for US imports.

It’d be great if we got some more of their belugas for the US population, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re reluctant to ask for permits after 3 of the 5 from the last transfer died.

Heres a YouTube video made by someone 7 days ago. It showed the park. A lot of the places were closed. There seems to be a lot of belega.
After watching the second video, at 3:08(minutes in the video) it showed an image of 2 bears, then if you read at the bottom. It is written Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary in Ontario and in the video, the guy talked about how they moved and went to another facility. So I think that the bears went to that sanctuary. I am happy that they did not go into private hands. Does anyone know the bear's names?

As I mentioned on the North American beluga thread, CITES database would be the one to watch for international transfers, while NOAA and the MMIR for US bound moves. To date, nothing recent except Helen and the Mystic Aquarium move. However I would expect the other beluga holders and SeaWorld Abu Dhabi to be in talks with them, as the marine mammal field is small.
Plus it is possible for a clause to be in the selling contract for the continued care of the animals until moves can be done, due to all the paperwork and government levels to navigate. Trying to rush transfers “to get all animals out” would be problematic of the new ownership.
The CITES Database isn't updated in real time. You're not going to get any results from this year, for example.
Applications are posted in the Federal Register. That is also where the request for public comment is sought.

I should clarify that all import/export permit applications for the US will be posted as public information in the US Federal Register and will include a comment period. Unless it would be an emergency authorization (highly unlikely), it would be there in real time.

As of July, Marineland animals are not gone. The deer, the bears, and the elk are still at Marineland. I thought that the bears went to Aspen Wildlife Sanctuary. I believe that Marineland is in the process of sending out the animals. In the video: 31,24 minutes, the guy said it was sold to Cedar Fair Entertainment but it was not confirmed. I do not know how he got in there, but he said it was done legally.
Given the recent completion of the merger of Six Flags and Cedar Fair, I think if CF did purchase the park it would have to be in disclosure documents to shareholders somewhere. Will be interesting to see what happens soon, as the season is about to end.
Looks like the 2024 season ends Sept 1st, that makes me wonder if these are the final days if they're not reopening for 2025 like rumored
