Hi! I would be interested to know more about the orangutans 'Gigit' and 'Beau' who were at Twycross Zoo. Have they both passed away, did they have any offspring, date of birth etc.

Beau was sent to Blackpool- he drowned in the (then) shallow water moat while still very young.

Gigit was sent to Paignton where she later died. I don't remember the circumstances.

Neither had offspring. The dates of their births, transfers and deaths will be in the Orangutan Studbook but you have to find their names in the historical register first.

A Sumatran orang-utan was born at Zoo Praha on May 2. It is the first young for mother Diri. The father is Pagy.

Two Sumatran orangutans have been born at Monde Sauvage in Belgium in recent months. On January 21, female Soraya was born, her mother is Mücke. On April 16, female Jambi was born, her mother is Ziadah. Male Batak is the father of both young.

Earlier this month, a male Bornean Orangutan was born at Blackpool Zoo. He is the son of Summer (who was born at the zoo herself in 2002) and Kawan (who came to the zoo from Apenheul Primate Park in 2022) (who also fathered the zoo's other baby orangutan Jarang, who was born last year).
