Singapore Night Safari Singapore Night Safari News

I visited this zoo last week and I was very disappointed. It's true that the collection is good and the exhibits attractive, but the visibility is almost non-existent. It's practically imposible to take photos. I think the experience would improve by installing light points in some places. I don't understand why the zoo can only be visited at night, I think the hours should be extended at the day. In any case, if you visit it simply to live a unique experience, it can be entertaining.
May I know what gear you used?

according to this 2001 zoo-ed magazine, looks like red pandas in singapore didnt make their debut in River Wonders as i thought!

does anyone know which FCT enclosure they occupied?

The Binturong enclosure. It didn't work out as the outdoor enclosure was just too hot, even at night.

Even before that Red Pandas went on short term display at the Zoo in the 80s or 90s. This was at the former Special Loan Enclosure which has become the present day Sulawesi Crested Macaque exhibit.

The entire portion of the Himalayan Tahr exhibit will be making way for the construction of a new walking trail called the Pangolin trail adjacent to the existing fishing cat trail, targeted opening is around June 2024

I realise the new Pangolin trail is quite extensive, running parallel to the existing Fishing Cat Trail and ending at the former aviary. There are at least 3 fully caged enclosures and what looks to be some kind of walk through. I wonder what will be housed there though, other than Pangolins. There aren't that many off show species at present to fill these enclosures.

I also doubt it can be ready by June. The 3rd quarter looks more realistic.

More binturong exhibits :p

Surprised they're splitting up the Fishing Cat Trail to another trail. What potential off-display species are left at the moment? Perhaps they'd bring back birds in the old aviary

Thats a shame...
Im only aware the Southern Tamandua from the old kidzworld @ zoo shld be one of the on show species

Anyone knows the subspecies of Asian elephant that the night safari elephants are? Plus Jati Gambir, Aprilla and Intan for zoo

Not sure for the rest of the elephants, but Chawang should be Elephas Maximus Indicus (or Hirsutus if you recognise the Malayan Elephant) since he was wild caught. Intan and Aprilla are Sumatrans, and I'm pretty sure Jati and Gambir are both Elephas Maximus Indicus since there have been attempted pairings with Chawang before. I'm not 100% sure myself though so feel free to correct if I'm wrong.

The Night Safari just updated its map in the more realistic style like the other parks (It's genuinely so Joever), but leaves us some pretty neat updates

- There's now a Bull Elephant Lookout, I believe I saw its sign by Tram Station 5 last Saturday. From the looks of it, Chawang might probably be the one on display there

- The Indian Gaurs are on the map after quite a well, I am very satisfied.

- Pangolin Trail has been teased as a "Coming Soon." Species showcased seem to be my beloved main stars the Sunda Pangolin, Common Palm Civet, Barn Owls and from the looks of it the Leopard Cat will be moving there? No confirmation of the Southern Tamandua there as of right now.

with this new trail, i wonder whats gonna happen to the leopard cat's old enclosure

Guess the small-toothed palm civets are staying alone in that enclosure. Pelicans are back on the map in Fishing Cat Trail too, not sure which species. Also using an American flamingo to represent their greater flamingos :P

There are current plans to perhaps bring Sang Wira over to the zoo so theres a chance only Chawang will stay

Yes Chawang will move to the "finale" exhibit of the tram ride (where the Asiatic Black Bears used to be). I'm glad there's a lookout to view him on foot.

The Pangolin Trail line up looks a bit disappointing. I suppose there are plans to acquire new species eventually. 3 exhibits of Small-toothed Civets is quite an overkill.
