Concerning the Colobus Monkeys I seem to remember they were/had retired the current breeding male?, did they replace him with an unrelated male?.
On my visit last month, a keeper informed me that there are two colobus groups within Monkey Valley, each consisting of five individuals and each with one mature male. To my knowledge, they are both young enough to breed, and have done so in the past, although not since moving into Snowdon. Not sure how the group was structured before the move.

Thank you

I wish they would be allowed an extension into Regent's Park! That would be real substantial progress for ZSL and nay on historic!!! And to add insult to injury fix the Terraces up and the empty hole that is the old derelict rock and aquarium.
Yes, it should happen. London has world class attractions in every area apart from the zoo (though I think some may disagree with this). They need an MP to get behind them but I can’t see one going to war with the Primrose Hill cricket club.

I think they would have to show that they are using every part of the existing site to its maximum potential before there being any chance, however slim, of extending further into the park.

Come on, just look at the monumental monstrosity that is the listed building Elephant and Rhino House (Casson Building) or the old Aquarium and the Mappin Terraces!!!!! Aside the former a "listed" monumental structure, thanks to care and concern on the part of London Boroughs and Westminster Council's responsibilities' regarding allowing the renovation and rebuilding of both into new state of the art modern zoo buildings repurposed for new species as well as providing some City funding for creating bigger and better new Mappin or Casson allowed both to implode to current dramatic levels.

The Mappin Terraces truthfully are totally obsolete and decrepit dump while the Casson Pavillion is just a huge concrete monstrosity amidst the core area and in an existential identity crisis building where zoo management seems to struggle how to recreate it into a relevant state of the art repurposed animal exhibitry building (biodiversity themes ..., natural history and habitats like tropical rainforest, mangroves, oceans).

Honestly whereas at the almost London Zoo crisis of the late 20th Century really both boroughs London Westminster and Camden Town do have a curio rather careless **** *** Attitude problem towards ZSL's Regent's Parks site and supporting the central tourist attraction with some much needed investment into ex situ conservation education, biodiversity research - natural history cum state of the art animal and plant habitat exhibitry. Now, I am not even beginning to mention the Royal Parks and the very posh and bashfull Primrose Hill Cricket Club.

My POV: the entire site of the Regent's Park needs a complete re-think..... (Westminster and Camden take note!!!).

I'm sure that most ZooChatters would love to see London Zoo expand into Regent's Park. An extra fifteen acres would make a huge difference to Lodon Zoo but would hardly be missed from a park of almost five hundred acres.

However, don't forget, the last time the subject was raised, the ZSL decided not to pursue it.

Yep, @Tim, estimable friend ... I think that was sort of a policy mistake ..., they should have as far as I am concerned.

The acres of park would not be missed at all. London has by far the most parkland of any city in Europe.

Would you mind expanding on when the subject was last raised and why they decided not to pursue it? I am sure you know far more about this than me!
