Sumatran Tigers in Europe #2

Sad to see him leave outside Europe. Do you have link to the post?

Not sure how to post the direct link but you find it in this group, scroll a bit down. A guy is reporting this and there's a little discussion about it. It's not an official source, apparently he heard it in the zoo. I think you have to register for the group

Tierpark Berlin - the new cubs (two males) have now been named, Ede and Kuno.

Amiens - Male, Pasai (born September 2022) will be moving to Aalborg Zoo later this month. He has a recommendation to breed with female, Bethari (born at Ree Park in 2015)

Last Friday, 5-year-old Sumatran tiger male Geram moved to Diergaarde Blijdorp from Aalborg Zoo. A female will also arrive soon from a zoo in France.

The most likely candidates for the French female are either, one of the sisters from Maubeuge (Tess and Nonja, born at Arnhem in September 2014) or Sankah from Le Pal (born December 2022).
Last Tuesday, 9-year-old Sumatran tiger Nonja moved to Diergaarde Blijdorp from Maubeuge.

Are there any older siblings of Gio and Vanni*? They were born in Rotterdam Zoo from parents Hermes and Alia.

In the latest EAZA Zooquaria magazine, I saw a birth announcement of Sumatran tigers that I believe I have not yet seen mentioned in this thread or the previous one.

Four Sumatran tigers were born at Parken Zoo on June 3, 2023. Parents of the cubs are Tondi and Kiesha. They are one male and four females. The male was named Banyu and the females were named Dewi, Indah and Kemala.

Thank you for the information. That is excellent news

It's always nice to have offspring, particularly if it's a first litter. I just wonder a little where to put them. Surviving Sumatran tiger offspring in Europe:

2020 - 0.2
2021 - 0.4
2022 - 5.4.2 (probably the inbred 0.0.2 in Aalborg are not alive anymore)
2023 - 4.7
2024 so far - 3.3

Deaths
2020 - 2.3
2021 - 6.3
2022 - 3.3
2023 - 0.2
2024 - 0.2

Leaving the Aalborg matter aside the offspring in the last 2.5 years is 12.14. This is more than animals have died within the last 4.5 years. Living population 15+ years:

2002 - 0.1
2003 - 0.1
2004 - 0.2
2005 - 1.3
2006 - 0.2
2007 - 4.3
2008 - 2.3

4.1 of the 2022 cubs still live in their birth place and of course all 7.10 born 2023 and 2024.

Yeah, it’s great for the species but only so many facilities are able to home these individuals. Multiple zoos may be able to receive these offspring considering they currently house lone young tigers and older individuals. Possible transfers in the next couple years or less might include:
P.S. I’m just making guesses based on age, not saying all of them will be gone in the coming years.

1.1 to Shepreth Wildlife Park (UK)
1.1 to The Big Cat Sanctuary (UK)
1.1 to Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens (UK)
0.1 to Zoo Brno (Czech Republic) to pair with Dandys
1.0 to CERZA Parc Safari (France) to pair with Zuma
1.0 to Zoo Jihlava (Czech Republic) to pair with Cinta
0.1 to Zoo de Champrépus (France) to pair with Bukit
1.0 to Zoo Maubeuge (France) to pair with Tess
1.1 to Flamingo Land Resort (UK)
1.1 to Zoo de Beauval (France)
1.1 to Le PAL (France) (if Sankha were to transfer)
1.1 to NaturZoo Rheine (Germany) (if Tailor were to transfer)
1.1 to Zoo de Doué la Fontaine (France)
0.1 to Zoo du Bassin d'Arcachon (France) to pair with Sayang
1.1 to Burgers’ Zoo (Netherlands)
1.1 to Zoo de Barcelona (Spain)
1.0 to Zoo Halle (Germany) to pair with Lara
1.0 to Zoo Frankfurt (Germany) to house with Cinta
1.0 to Sóstó Zoo (aka Nyíregyházi Állatpark) (Hungary) to pair with Sabah

Shepreth don't have the space or the facilities to do introductions. Because of this, they act as a holding facility for none breeding pairs/individuals and will probably continue to do so for the foreseeable. Spaces like this are much needed, so it's a valuable resource

Naturzoo Rheine - it was mentioned earlier in this thread that Tailor will hopefully be moving to Jerusalem later this year. That will just leave Naga at Rheine for now

At the moment the situation still looks pretty relaxed. The eldest to be placed are Zac and Crispin from London, born 6/2022, this will work smoothly as well as for all others born 2022 I guess. In April there was an article about Krefeld looking for a place for their offspring as their father is increasingly unhappy about the situation with his sons. It should be okay to keep offspring until they are two years old but I don't know too many enclosures that are able to host three or more grown up tigers. Given the birth rate in the recent two years I am worried that breeders will have to be prepared to keep them longer than usual.
