2.9K views · 61 reactions | Today is World Waterfowl Day We are proud to specialize in the rehabilitation of waterfowl and waterbirds. On average, we admit 500 ducks, geese, and gull species each year. A Red-breasted Merganser recently arrived at our facility with a fishing line and hook injury. After removing the line and hook, he remained in our care to regain strength, receive antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medication, and restore his waterproofing. He was released on Lake Erie yesterday afternoon to give him the best chance at success in the wild. Fun Fact: Red-breasted Mergansers stop at Lake Erie during their migration. At times, 80% of the world’s Red-breasted Merganser population is on Lake Erie!
