Tama Zoo Tama Zoo News

That's really sad. I was just looking at his pictures today. Does this mean Singapore Night Safari will temporarily be the only place inside Asia to house them? If so, I just saw them yesterday.
Yes, Singapore Night Safari is temporarily the only place in Asia to see Tasmanian devils.
I don't know when Tama will introduce a new pair, but it's true that they are planning on doing so.

Tasmanian devils will not be exhibited for a while because their Tasmanian devil died.
They are planning to introduce a new pair.
タスマニアデビルの「テイマー」が死亡しました
Oh no. I just noticed this while glancing over the map on their website. Honestly it's impressive how quickly they updated the map, considering how many places I've seen with online maps that are years outdated. Glad to hear they're planning to get more, though.

The last Hadada ibis in Tama Zoo has passed away. This is unfortunate as this Hadada ibis was the last one in a Japanese zoo. However, Dr. Wolverine has told me that an ibis park in Sado Island still keeps this species.

I am ecstatic to annouce that Tasmanian Devils will be making a return to the Tama Zoo on March 14, with the new individuals being one to two year old females from the Cressy Wildlife Centre. Reception to the tweet has been quite positive, with Japanese animal lovers excited to see the Australian section become more livelier again.

Looking forward to this!

I personally wonder how the styani part of the Japan zoo population is doing and how their genetics, relatedness and sustainability. I believe there is also still a nominate Himalayan red panda (fulgens),

What is the long term plan for oriental stork at Tokyo Tama?

After the last hadada ibis passed away ... Wishful thinking: Japanese crested ibis (an extension to the recovery effort in Japan itself)?

Tama already keeps crested ibis. They are kept behind the scenes.
@PossumRoach, Thank you for that helpful comment!

Any further information you have on what collections and zoos in Japan keep the crested ibis (Nipponia nippon) and how large and hopefully some sex age ratio (M/F/U) data per collection?

The project erstwhile started on Honshu and has recently expanded to Hokkaido!!!
What part of the zoo breeding groups is participating in the recovery and restoration of wild crested ibis in Japan.

According to the 2023 Annual Report, Tama Zoo has succeeded in breeding a Small Japanese Mole (Mogera imaizumii) for the first time in Japanese zoos. The mole was born last July and is currently growing. It is likely housed in the zoo's back area.
