Possible zoo trip to Wroclaw and Prague.

Hopefully at some point this year I will be going on a zoo trip to visit the following zoos:
  • Wroclaw
  • Dvur Kralove
  • Prague
  • Pilsen
My current plan is to stay in Wroclaw first, then travel to Prague. The whole trip will last about a week.

Does anybody have any advice on using public transport to get about? I believe there is a bus that runs from Wroclaw to Prague, also Prague to Pilsen/Dvur Kralove seem doable from my research but Dvur is possibly somewhat complicated.

Finally, when I visit Pilsen I would be interested in seeing the off-show areas. Is this still a possibility for zoo enthusiasts and if so how should I go about arranging this?

Any advice is appreciated, thank you.

You can use bus or train to travel from Wroclaw to Prague. Train takes 6 hours and you have to change lines 1x or 2x. Direct bus (25-30 euro) takes 5 - 5,5 hours but it depends on traffic jams en route.

Direct buses exist from Prague to Dvur. Just the bus station lies on opposite site of the town than the zoo. Either you catch a local town bus that runs like 5 times a day only. Or you must walk those 2 km.

When you stay in Wroclaw try to check also Opole zoo. It has the nicest looking exhibits from all Polish zoos. And it´s just 45 minutes by direct train away.

Regarding Pilsen - you have a private message.

Take a train to Dvur, than take the bus to the zoo. The scedule is limited so plan it in advance.
I did it last year.

Plzen: if doing a day trip from Prague, leave early! You want to be there at 8 because the lights will still be on in the African nocturnal house.
Defenitely acquire about going behind the scènes. The zoo is willing to allow this. I did it three times ( altho the second time there was not much to see )

Anyway, you picked 4 really great zoos!

I agree Opole is nice too, but then again so are a few other Polish and Czech zoos.

Last year I got the train to Dvur (from Děčín but I had to change trains somewhere) and called the hotel (the hotel actually inside the safari park) to arrange for a taxi, which was cheap as I recall. I'll third the behind-the-scenes in Pilsen, definitely worthwhile if you are able to arrange that.

I will be visiting Plzen soon and would LOVE the behind the scenes access. Is it best to contact ahead of time about this, or on arrival?
