Pygmy Hippos in Europe

Pilsen, Czech Republic has pygmy hippos since 2010.

Pompe, female from Olomouc and Rambo, the male from Cabarceno arrived in 2010. Rambo unfortunately died in 2011 and Pilsen got new male, Leipi from Rotterdam, in January 2012.

(And I found an article that says that Leipi was born in 1985 in Leipzig. So he´s 27 now, just like me :D )

Hi everyone,

There are pygmy hippos in Lithuania. Now there are 4 of them: 2 males and 2 females. Lithuanian zoo keeps pygmy hippos since 1980's.
 
Pygmy hippo Debby (Dimba * Paul) has left Bratislava for Gyor.

ZOO Bratislava on Instagram: " Mladá samica hrošíka libérijského, Debby, našla nový domov v @zoogyorofficial , kde by mala v budúcnosti vytvoriť chovný pár so samcom z Bioparc Fuengirola. Do maďarskej zoo dorazila v poriadku a začína sa v nej udomácňovať. Po jej odchode sa pokračuje v rekonštrukcii chovného zariadenia s cieľom vytvoriť lepší domov pre hrošíky a zo zoo #krajšiemiestoprevšetkých. Minulý rok na jeseň sa podarilo na ubikácii hrošíkov vymeniť strechu, ktorá bola v havarijnom stave. Vďaka zbierke realizovanej OZ Priatelia ZOO, finančným a materiálnym darom, majú hrošíky bezpečnú, funkčnú a navyše zelenú strechu. Obnova strechy bola pri vytváraní Lepšieho domova pre hrošíky prvou fázou prestavby chovného zariadenia. ‍V pondelok sa začala plánovaná výmena okien, dverí a presklených stien na budove, po ktorej bude nasledovať výmena a zateplenie fasády. A pygmy hippo has been born to mum Ola and dad Sakassou in Branféré.

Parc de Branféré on Instagram: " : ́́ ́ ́ ́́ ! Cette naissance est une excellente nouvelle pour la préservation de cette espèce ‘’en danger’’ (statut IUCN) d’Afrique de l’Ouest. C'est le deuxième petit de Ola, la femelle, et de Sakassou, le mâle, né à Branféré après la naissance de la petite Moyamba en 2018. Les premiers jours sont décisifs. Le petit reste sous la surveillance attentive des soigneurs et de sa mère. Si tout va bien, il sera visible auprès de sa mère dans les prochaines semaines. On vous en dit plus bientôt ️ ? Mother is Debbie as confirmed on zoo socials. I am unsure of the male's name but as Berlin only house 1.1.1, the father will be the only other pygmy housed.

As the offspring are not yet ready for the deep water of the pygmy hippopotamus enclosure, they will spend some time in the back area with their mother, Debbie. It is a male. He has been given the name Dabou.
