According to Zoo Tier Liste there is European rabbit in the zoo- ZootierlisteHomepage . I have never seen an enclosure for them and can any member confirm if Dublin does hold them?

Domestic rabbits are on show in the family farm.

Thanks, but ZTL lists them as 'European rabbit (Wild rabbit) (Oryctolagus cuniculus)' in the mammal section with there being no rabbit listed in the domestic and breeding form section (which I assume is an error).

It is very possible that someone saw a wild rabbit in one of the enclosures and placed it on ZTL.

Awful news! 8-year-old female elephant Avani and 28-year-old orangutan Riona both passed away yesterday overnight on 30th June .

I'm guessing Avani is the first elephant to die in Dublin this century. Still, its so tragic how she left this world so soon after Aung Bo's arrival, and it's all the more heart wrenching with Riona given that it's been more than 4 months since Sibu died .

Avani is indeed the first elephant at Dublin to die since “Coffee II” died in 1991.

From the zoo's Facebook they are awaiting a necropsy report. I feel if it was EEHV we would know by now as the signs are so prevalent and well-known at this point.

Damn, I was so sad to see that Avani had died that I completely skipped over the fact that Riona had also died! Two premature animal deaths in a single night! What a sad day for the Dublin Zoo.

That is true, although it might not be entirely coincidental considering she passed so soon after Aung Bo's arrival.

Avani was also only seven years old; not eight as the facebook post mentions. Her death leaves Dublin with just five elephants now. Hopefully all other elephants are doing well.

Thanks for pointing that out Jambo. I remembered that Avani was born in 2017, yet I didn't think to point out her actual age because I was just so shattered by the news.

Devastating news. That’s two elephants they’ve lost to EEHV in a very short period of time since importing Aung Bo.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! This can't be happening!! I just hope that someday, zoos can effectively combat this evil virus with the vaccine they're developing (in case anyone didn't know)!
