Prague Zoo Praha Prague Zoo News 2024

Since when do they have them? ZTL nor the gallery mentions them anywhere

Couldn´t that be a mistake? Anniversary report from last year states bucharan urials. Or were there some new arrivals this year?

Yeah just a case of me getting common names mixed up :p:D but my point remains, given how unusual Bukhara Urial are!

I visited Plzen, Dvur Kralove, Jihlava, Liberec, Usti, Decin and Zajezd from Prague as day trips.

If you have just 3 days I recommend Prague, Plzen and Dvur. Jihlava would be my fourth pic, followed by Usti.

I liked Decin and Zajezd, but they are small.

I didn't really like Liberec as much.

Completed my first day. Saw all 4 Amur leopard kittens. Jaguarundi kittens too although access is restricted because of tayras.
Any tips to see horned screamer and Palawan leopard cats?
Oriental bat owls are near the gorillas and I saw two kiang for whoever asked.
Do they only have one individual each for Salvadori’s and Large fig parrots?

Thanks again to everyone.

They should have multiple of both fig parrot species. The large figs I think only a pair, but they should have at least a pair if not two pairs of Salvadori’s in the Rakos pavilion

I see the screamers almost every visit regardless of time I pass by. Maybe try early morning?

The leopard cats have shelves high up the walls where they sleep sometimes. Also cats used to be fed in early afternoon after 13:00 and it was a good time to see shy individuals when they paced nervously waiting for their share. But my info is outdated from since before covid, routine might be different now.

Have you seen Chacoan maras? Some visitors dont realise there is an exhibit on the fur seal house roof.

Does anyone know if there are daily feedings for some of Prague's predators (especially felines)?

The zoo lists only following feeding times for predators: manuls 15:30 (not on Sundays), Tasmanian devils 16:00.

Large cat feeding time is no longer published - it got discontinued few years ago. (Most Czech zoos feed them only 1-2 per week to prevent obesity and pacing stereotypes anyway.)

Did they discontinue the hyena feeding to prevent obesity as well? Or is it because the animals are getting old?

I've visited Prague Zoo a few times but I haven't been there for several years. I'll viti the zoo in October and there are some species that I want to see but I can't detect them on the map. Could you help me? The species are the following:

- Pel's Fishing Owl
- Brazilian Merganser
- Horned Screamer
- Chinese pangolin

Thanks!

The pangolins are situated within the Indonesian Jungle exhibit near the main entrance of the zoo.

- Pel's Fishing Owl - behind penguin house, an aviary next to buffy fish owls
- Brazilian Merganser + Horned Screamer - live mixed in the first aviary behind shoebills

Thanks, are there times when tayras, bush dogs, honey badgers, and binturongs are fed (not official feedings) or when they are simply more active? Also, do you know when fossas will be put on show?

I´m pretty confident that you will meet active tayras, bush dogs and honey badgers if you come to their enclosures in the morning (pangolins are near all of these three species and their enclosure is lit up till 11, so I would get there first and you can continue your visit up the hill, where you will find the rest) and I´m also pretty confident that you won´t see active binturong :D (since they moved to a different part of the Indonesian jungle house, I didn´t see them once even tho I visit regulary).
