Just left the opening of Bear Hollow at Cleveland Zoo. The Tropical Bear keepers told me they have not identified any female Andean Bears of interest to bring in and that they will have a more concrete plan next year once Pacha reaches maturity.

The queens zoo confirmed that both Andean bear cubs born two years ago Pacha(Male) and Nuna(Female) have been moved to new homes. Pacha has been moved to Cleveland and it is still not known where Nuna was moved to.
I emailed the Beardsley Zoo and asked if there was any chance they would be getting Nuna the female Andean Bear from Queens and they said yes and she will be out of quarantine soon.
Beardsley Zoo has officially announced on their Facebook that Nuna has arrived and will be on exhibit in a few weeks

I know you didn't ask me, but I do know that at least as of last year, Arica is still alive at Chapultepec Zoo in Mexico, when they announced the death of her longtime mate Charlie.

The Andean bear exhibit opened to the public on March 29th, with (1.0) bear Muniri from the Nashville Zoo in Tennessee.

While it’s true that the exhibit has opened, the exhibit will be unoccupied until sometime this summer, to allow grass to grow.

Andean bear cubs Ransisku and Suyana have been separated from mom Alba. It seems they will live behind the scenes until they are moved to other facilities for breeding recommendations.

Oh my gosh, that's horrible to hear about Bouba! Do you know what the cause of death was? He was only like 12 years old. Andean bears regularly live into their 20's.
I'm kind of shocked that WCS didn't announce anything. He was definitely one of the most iconic animals at the Queens Zoo. Also, that scene of him and Nicole reuniting was my absolute favorite part of that WCS show, "The Zoo."

Very sad news to hear about Bouba, but it is great to see that he at least sired one last litter. His legacy will live on through the three young cubs.

I had a friend visit the Salisbury Zoo yesterday for their Andean Bear Day enrichment. Rayni, the juvenile male Andean bear, is to move to another zoo, but the location was not given. I also heard they plan to renovate the exhibit at some point so I wouldn't be surprised if female bear Chaska may relocate too.
If she moves, maybe Cleveland? They've been planning on bringing in a female Andean for at least a year, since they finished the new bear exhibits. Then again if Chaska's move is temporary for renovations they may bring in someone else who can stay permanently.

Sadly with The Wild Animal Sanctuary having a VERY anti-zoo stance, I doubt these three will ever breed or go to zoos. Which is unfortunate, we need the genetic diversity.
