Nice to see the empty enclosures have mostly been reoccupied or are being worked on. Quick question -- were Troupial occupying the aviary that normally has Rhinoceros Hornbill, or is that one of the semi off-show holding cages?

Also, for informational purposes, thought it'd be worthwhile to add in show/program species. I'm sure the list is incomplete, but these are all in the collection as of 2024 based on social media or youtube. The bird show especially has some choice species.

Bird show: Marabou Stork, Black Vulture, Andean Condor, Harpy Eagle, Eurasian Eagle Owl, Trumpeter Hornbill, Toco Toucan, Sulfur-crested Cockatoo, Yellow-naped Amazon, Yellow-headed Amazon, Military Macaw, Blue-throated Macaw, Green-winged Macaw, Red-legged Seriema, Aplomado Falcon, African Pied Crow

Other program/zoomobile: Lesser Hedgehog Tenrec, Southern Tamandua(?), Chinchilla, Prehensile-tailed Porcupine, Striped Skunk, Pancake Tortoise, Red-footed Tortoise, Wood Turtle, Eastern Box Turtle, Prehensile-tailed Skink, Kenyan Sand Boa, Ball Python, Western Hognose Snake, Western(?) Foxsnake, Cornsnake, Bullsnake, Eastern Tiger Salamander, Giant African Millipede, Orange-kneed Tarantula, Rose Hair Tarantula

I just realized I forgot the Rhinoceros Hornbill! The Troupial is in the semi-offshow holding cage right above the old Asian Small-Clawed Otter Exhibit. I agree about the empty exhibits through! The zoo seems to finally be getting it's footing back, and it's refreshing to see so many new projects and renovations happening around the zoo. I believe the only empty/abandoned enclosures left are the long forgotten Nocturnal Trail and Arctic Fox exhibits, which have both been empty for decades.
I saw to both the Bird show and the Wings & Things presentation, and I wrote down the species I saw. I neglected to put them in the original list, but I'll post them here for future reference:

What happened to Minnesota Zoo's meerkat exhibit? At one time wasn't there a plan to create a zone with the snow monkeys, African penguins, and meerkats as exhibits of social animals?

The path that accessed the former indoor meerkat exhibit building, which is also the tiger holding building, is no longer publicly accessible -- it went past the backside of Russia's Grizzly Coast. The site of the outdoor meerkat exhibit is now part of a playground. There were indeed plans under the previous director to reincorporate meerkats into a social animal zone at the Main Building entry area. Penguins got built, and a Snow Monkey renovation should be happening any time now. I'm guessing Meerkat plans were dropped because it would entail either removing the gift shop or restaurant, or else adding an addition to the building to make space for another animal exhibit. In contrast the Penguin exhibit replaced an animal area (the original indoor theater and zoolab), and the Snow Monkey exhibit is already there and just needs to be renovated/repaired.
