River Wonders River Wonders news 2024

I'm okay with phasing out the red-bellied piranhas, considering their overexposure in most public aquariums across Asia and the rest of the world.

It would be fantastic if the park would acquire lesser known piranhas like Pygocentrus cariba and Serrasalmus rhombeus.

There are also far more dynamic and intriguing candidates the display could host, deep-water species like the tamandua knifefish, giant caecilians (Typhlonectes natans), or possibly a new turtle like the red-headed Podocnemis.

To replace them with the same fish from Night Safari is disappointing, considering they could have just been transferred to the freshwater ray pond.

I could share your opinion IF they had replaced the Serrasalmus nattereri with one of the piranha species you mentioned. Unfortunately they don't (yet). So it is a loss of attractivity for "common" visitors to me.
 
It's more likely they passed away from natural causes than being phased out. Speaking from experience as an avid aquarium hobbyist, and having worked with the River Wonders' Aquatics department in the past, fish mortality in public aquaria, especially among schooling species is quite prevalent and sometimes unpredictable, even with excellent filtration and husbandry.

This school of piranhas has been a part of the attraction for the last 13 years, slightly over the species' average lifespan.

Speaking of the Arrau turtle, it looks as if it used to be a victm of the exotic pet trade... Any more victims u think there are in the other Mandai parks(including River Wonders)

as @NATY said, thats a Malaysian Giant Turtle, not an Arrau

as for your qn, i know that a False Gharial(RW) and a Seychelles Magpie-robin(BP) were both seized by authorities. Pierre the Northern Rockhopper and Genghis the Himalayan Vulture(both BP) was a rescue, but the latter died recently. over at NS, i know that some pangolins and Tripod the Clouded Leopard are rescues

As far as I'm aware I think a lot of our Black Pond Turtles were rescues? Which if it is the case there is a ridiculous amount of them since they're pretty much in almost all of our parks

I always thought Tripod is a zoo born, didn’t know it is a rescued one

FIVE?? That many? I thought we only had like 1 BoH so that's quite the surprise. Either way really do hope we'll finally see them once again

And I knew we had a lot of Black Pond Turtles but 100 is genuinely nuts. At least they survived and seem to be doing pretty good in our parks. Wonder if we'll be shipping them to other zoos perhaps
 
Glad to hear the return of the Chinese giant salamander. Is the enclosure big enough to mix more than 1 salamander along with the Chinese highfin loaches?
