Victoria Crowned Pigeons

Victoria Crowned Pigeons are non existent up here in Queensland, has anyone noticed if Taronga or any zoo for that matter with them? thanks Terra.

Unless I'm wrong, in Australia I think there's only a couple (or one or three; something like that) at Taronga, and they're (or it's) very old.

EDIT: just checked ISIS and it says Taronga has two males

yep one is in the avariy opposite the red pandas and is an evil bird who tries to attack you every time you go in there! and the other lives opposite the red kangarroo/ wallaby/ emu enclousure near the old jungle cats

The one opposite the kangaroos has the opposite behaviour - a keeper entered the cage when I was there last month and the pigeon ran over and followed her and generally got in the way of her feet!

:)

Hix

yep both males. taronga had some success with this species in the 80s but it has fizzled out since then. such a shame....and try bribing them with unshelled pea-nuts
