Franklin Park Zoo Franklin Park Zoo News 2024

Hi everyone! I’ve been looking for lots of old photos of Franklin Park Zoo on the internet and I found a few somewhat old ones here! Some of the photos are from Stone Zoo and some are recent but still lots of them are from the Franklin Park Zoo. Hope this helps someone out!

The reindeer farnyard always looks horible. They need space. Sheep at farmyard at franklin park have biger yard.

If you Google around some more you can find pictures from the early 1900s when the zoo had elephants, bears, river hippos, and giraffes (the first time).
 
Speaking of old buildings not sure if anyone knows this but on property is still the old antelope house. If you look on google maps you can see it behind Serengeti crossing. I think that it would be outstanding if they refurbished it into some sort of special event place or possibly a new giraffe barn.

I believe they're already planning on building new giraffe barn, just behind Giraffe Savanna.

Really?! Do you have evidence of this? If so then hopefully they can expand their herd as supposedly their are only two stalls in the barn which limits them to holding two girrafes.
 
I found an image of the old elephant house. There are more that you can easily find on the internet. The elephants head was supposedly supposed to be saved but someone dropped it and it broke. I got that little info from a comment on some website about the past of Jamaica plains and the old zoo. If anyone would like to see that just let me know and I can attach the website.

The zoo has announced that their warthog “Everett” will be moving to another AZA facility. Not sure if it’s just me but from reading their social media post about Everett I get the feeling that he will not be coming back to the zoo which makes me think that warthogs will not be included in the new and improved Serengeti crossing.

Visit today there were beautiful fruit dove in the riverbank and black nape fruit dove in rainforest in cages in those exhibits. Educator said saddle bill stork male might get new female since his mate past away. At gorilla talk, someone ask if gurza monkey still happening and educator said the zoo still wants to add them.
