Woburn Safari Park Woburn Safari Park News 2024

ZTL isn't as reliable as many on this site think it is, particularly for the UK, I know a good number of respected zoonerds who do know there stuff who stopped editing because they would believe people who don't have a clue. Also some places don't get visited as often and as a result they get missed and the species they have listed contain a good number that they haven't held for sometime as a result.
ZTL is reliant on being updated by visitors, so the only way it can be accurate is if it is regularly updated. Giving up on editing because of accuracy issues, when the only way to improve said issues would be by editing it, seems a little pointless to me.

The least we can do is try to update it, and on that note, I have moved the Addax at Woburn to former holdings.

The people I know were regular updaters of ZTL, but stopped when a person who wasn't visiting for themselves and believing the website was editing to match said website, when they changed things back it kept getting changed back to the incorrect holdings, eventually they got tired of not being believed, despite putting a source as a personal visit, but because it wasn't listed on the website it kept getting removed. The problem is that anyone with editing powers can change things, and not everyone knows what everything is and some people when they don't know guess at what the species is, there in lies the problem.

It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the loss of our elderly bush dogs, Dante and Scrappy Dappy Doo

On Thursday 27th June, the bush dogs' dedicated team of specialist vets and keepers came to the sad conclusion that Dante and Scrappy's quality of life had declined rapidly due to increasing age-related health issues, and it was decided that the kindest thing to do would be to put them both to sleep peacefully.

We took this wonderful species on as a pack of six from a collection that was closing down; at this time, these animals were already on the older side so they had a fantastic and secure retirement home with us. They enjoyed exploring their habitat as a pack and could be very vocal at times.

In light of this sad news, the European studbook holder for Bush Dogs has commended us on our exceptional level of care for these animals. Dante was the oldest bush dog in the whole of Europe by three years - reaching the ripe old age of 13. Scrappy was the second oldest by two years - reaching 12 years of age. Amazingly, Dante was also the third oldest bush dog in the world.

Both dogs were very popular characters in our Foot Safari who could often be seen tucking into plenty of meat, tearing into cardboard boxes filled with tasty treats made by their devoted keepers. They never failed to make the keeping staff smile on a daily basis.

Dante and Scrappy were well loved and will be sorely missed by all of their keepers and visitors ❤️

I visited today and there was a sign on the bush dog enclosure saying that they will soon be welcoming a breeding pair of bush dogs that will both come from Europe.
That is great to hear, knowing that Woburn has not given up on the species considering this is the second time they've lost them (I think?).

There were no signs for Iberian Wolves. They have signs for Canadian Timber Wolves which are supposed to be in the same enclosure as the American Black Bears, but we didn't actually manage to see any of the wolves today.

They must be hopefully that Granville and Bonnie will have rhino babies, as the other two rhino i think are teenagers now and might be a little too old for a young bull.. but only time will tell as they have wanted rhino babies for years

They are actually related to each other. Bonnie's sister (Alisa) is Granville's mother. They (Bonnie and Alisa) were both born at Blair Drummond to Dot and Graham. So she's technically his Aunt.

It's possible a further move will happen later, or the EEP have allowed it, given the current issues with importing and exporting individuals to the continent. Either way it's great to see Woburn finally receive a new male. It's been a long wait

I get why but she could have learnt so much from
Older rhino who she is now very close with.. and will hopefully have calf’s than always being moved around..

Has anyone actually seen the forth female Yin zin elephant at woeburn? They said once they were retiring her because she was getting into her 40’s but it seem like she isn’t once mentioned at all and can’t be healthy for her to be kept isolated when she was once in the group of other females!
