Hi

I created a species list for this facility:

Name: Zoo In Mall
Location: Selangor, Malaysia
Website: Zoo In Mall -Malaysia | Subang Jaya

This facility opened in March 2024, but part of the zoo is still under construction. It is a 100% indoor facility that is located inside a shopping mall, so the enclosures are clean but lacks space and sunlight.

It is owned and operated by an animal trading company, and the main objective of this place seems to be a shownroom for animals on sale, rather than a zoo. The manager told me that they are building a large pet shop in the same block to sell "exotic and rare" species.

The list is based on the signs and personal observations, and may be wrong or missing some species.

<Mammals>

Agouti / Dasyprocta sp.
Black-tailed Prairie Dog / Cynomys ludovicianus
Patagonian Mara / Dolichotis patagonum
Meerkat / Suricata suricatta

Alpaca / Vicugna pacos
African Pygmy Goat / Capra aegagrus hircus
Bennett's Wallaby / Notamacropus rufogriseus

<Birds>

Blue and Yellow Macaw / Ara ararauna (unsigned)
Monk Parakeet / Myiopsitta monachus (unsigned)
Cockatiel / Nymphicus hollandicus (unsigned)
Mute Swan / Cygnus olor
Domestic Duck (Call) / Anas platyrhynchos domesticus
Mandarin Duck / Aix galericulata
Golden Pheasant / Chrysolophus pictus
Indian Peafowl / Pavo cristatus
Domestic Chicken (Silky) / Gallus gallus domesticus (unsigned)

<Reptiles>

Red-eared Slider / Trachemys scripta elegans (unsigned)

Frilled Lizard / Chlamydosaurus kingii
Brown Basilisk / Basiliscus vittatus
Major Skink / Bellatorias frerei

Corn Snake / Pantherophis guttatus
Burmese Python / Python bivittatus (unsigned)
False Cobra / Malpolon moilensis

<Amphibians>

Australian Green Tree Frog / Litoria caerulea
Cane Toad / Rhinella marina

<Invertebrates>

Coconut Crab / Birgus latro

This facility should not be considered as a "zoo", and the only reason I went there was to see the Agouti, which is quite rare around asia.

Please let me know if you see any points to fix or have any questions.
I'll be happy to discuss!

Do you have any pictures of the facility? I really want to compare this place with the notorious noah inner city zoo in Yokohama and Yoshinori Horii’s meccha omoroi doubutsuen.

Yes, I'll upload photos soon!

I've been to the Inner City Zoo Noah a few years ago, and I think it's made with the same concept.
This zoo didn't have prices and couldn't buy the animals in the zoo, where you could do so in Noah when I went there.

Meccha Omoroi Doubutuen...
I've only heard horrible stories about that facility, and never been there.

How would potential buyers find out prices of animals on show if they are not listed. Inquiry with the staff?

I would be like to know what a wallaby can fetch for a price in Malysia, for example.

The area is still under construction. The manager told me that they are going to open a pet shop with these species in it in September, and customers can buy or get prices there.

I went to another zoo that is operated by an animal trading company in Malaysia.
This place had price tags for most enclosures.

I know that this is a question far more suited for the thread about Horii’s antics, but do you have any experience with Horii’s previous zoo Meccha Sawareru Doubutsuen? Have you ever seen any of Horii’s traveling exhibitions?

I've heard a lot of bad stories from zoos operated by that company. I had a chance to visit Meccha Sawareru Doubutsuen in the past, but didn't go.

I just think it's too unethical.

Hi

I re-visited the zoo in March 31st to see the updates.
The "upgrading work" that the owner claimed to be done by September 2024 was not even started, although there are minor changes in the exhibit area.

The whole zoo still lacks animal welfare, although at keast they have space to move around.
For example, this is the new Sailfin Dragon exhibit, with zero water and plain concrete:

New tanks for turtle species

Here is the updated species list:

<Gone Species>

These species were observed during my last visit in August 2024, but are now gone:

Burmese rock python (Burmese python) (Python bivittatus (Syn.: Python molurus bivittatus))
Golden pheasant (Chrysolophus pictus)
Indian peafowl (Blue peafowl) (Indien Peacock) (Pavo cristatus)
Japanese silkie chicken (Gallus gallus f. domestica)

Red-necked wallaby (Bennett's wallaby) (No Subspecific status) (Notamacropus rufogriseus (Syn.: Macropus rufogriseus) (Syn.: Protemnodon rufogrisea))
Sulphur-crested cockatoo (Greater sulphur-crested cockatoo) (No Subspecific status) (Cacatua galerita)

The zoo has recently acquired interesting species, including the Northern giant pouched rat (Cricetomys gambianus), which is quite rare in Asian zoos. The sad thing is that the workers there had absolutely no knowledge of what they were taking care of, and called the species "wild rat" and reffered to the agoutis as "rabbits".

Ironically, due to the confined environment and the fact that the facility is run by an animal dealer, breeding seems to be going well. Recently, animals such as agoutis, maras, and hedgehogs have been successfully bred. However, they say they will sell the babies.

Feel free to leave any comments!
