Chester Zoo What animal would you least like to escape

Inspired by another topic on zoochat what animal or animals would you least like to escape whilst you where at the zoo??
 
Hard to Say...

Wow, that is a hard one to answer. I've been onsite for a variety of trained predator escapes and probably would be a bit more worried about one of the great apes--maybe a chimp would be the worst.

Of course, polar bears are the ultimate predator in my book--wondering what yours is?
 
when we went on Sunday the chimps were doing lots of displaying and fighting was kinda scary if im honest realising how strong they are especially when one of them basically threw another one against the steel door.
 
Chimp, elephant bull, Jag and any type of bear if it got peed off, however I don't think they'd stalk or hurt people intentionally as a Jag would.
 
I wouldn't want a chimp to escape from any zoo. There have been a couple of very vicious attacks on humans reported in the past few years which has caused many people to no longer think chimps are so cute.

Chimps have probably escaped from zoo exhibits in the past, but now, if any chimps escaped from zoos, there would probably be a public outcry to close down all chimp exhibits, and I wouldn't want zoos to stop exhibiting these fascinating creatures.

At the now- closed Causeway Safari Park in Ireland some years ago, two or three adult male chimps escaped and went on the rampage in the cafeteria. There is film footage somewhere of visitors trying to protect themselves with chairs etc. Fortunately the chimps were shot dead before anyone was seriously hurt.

An old pair escaped from Whipsnade zoo enclosure about a year ago. Again, the male had to be shot as he moved outside the zoo. The female was captured without trouble.

The attacks I have read about that took place in the USA seem mostly to have involved so-called 'pet' chimps which have suddenly become agressive to people.

Whoa, what a great video. I know it sounds stupid but they look so much more different in the wild, much blacker and they seem to have more hair. Something to do with the subspecies perhaps?
 
Male chimps must be the worst scenario. Where ever you could hide he could get to you. In second place would be the old angry woman I always seem to get serving me in the zoo cafe

No. They look much blacker in the wild BECAUSE they have more hair. The reason they have more hair is their coats are not worn away by contact with concrete or metal surfaces which is abrasive to the hair (same with Orangutans) Some Zoo Chimpanzees do have good coats too- depends largely on the enclosure.
 
most zoo's will have a list of animals worst to escape, like my local zoo Edinburgh

ask any keeper and they would point to the cutest and softest looking animals to be the worst!

unpredictability would mean the Chimpanzees top the list, swiftly followed by the Drills and Barbary Macqaques, the asiatic lions for obvious reasons, jaguars, amur leopards and sumatran tigers

the wolverine and ratel/honey badger would be close to the top as their claws could do some major damage!

and i would definately stay out of the way of the 'Aleotran Gentle Lemurs' who are anything but!!!!
