A Mountain bongo has been born:

Chester Zoo announces birth of rare mountain bongo - BBC News

The female bongo mountain bongo is only the second to be born at the Cheshire attraction in the last 15 years.

Mike Jordan, from the zoo, said the calf - named Navari - was an "incredibly precious new arrival".

I had feared the worst .... (so soon after her mother died from illness) and it is coming to pass.

ADD: It seems she died under general anesthesia and under investigation for blood anomalies.

Let's remember Riva Hi Way didn't die of EEHV. Still devastating news for Chester especially as her death was so close to her pregnant mother dying but sounds like Riva had a unknown condition

If they are not on show, visitors won't be able to see this calf, but unless I missed it I can't see any mention of that.

In 2019, it was noted that a female bongo calf born 04/09/2019 to Safi was the first in over 11 years to be born at Chester Zoo:

Pertinax it is true. Chester has not been successful in breeding Bongo.

total births since 1993 is 7.9 of which 1.1 did not survive. However for several years the zoo was without a male.

They are not no, will be included in the African forrest area, but time frame for that is still generally unknown. Guess they could move them to the giraffe paddock once empty, but depends how quickly the plans progress and if as theorised the new chimp habitat will be on the site of the giraffes house, so site may not be availible for that long and if they are breeding they may not want to disturb them just for a temporary home

Whenever the bongo do eventually come back on show I hope it will be in a more shaded enclosure, hopefully that will get them out a bit more, I hardly ever saw them in their former paddock.

Well, the C&M people seem to have their maths ..... out by a few years. No denying though that bongo breeding has not recently (2019-2024 period) been Chester's forte. I think their focus had been on sitatunga - which incidentally are also in parts of Africa and vulnerable - for a long time.
