Zoorasia Zoorasia news, and updates

The male's name is Bakari from White Oak Conservation Center, and the female's name is Lala, born at Zoorasia in 2014.

Based on what I've heard, Zoorasia doesn't have any plans to breed them.
@Veno Right, do you know what they have planned for the Przewalski horses long term in Japan? Will they become part of the rewilding projects in f.i. Mongolia, PR China and Kazakhstan and perhaps Uzbekistan ... Ukraine?

Two male Geoffroy's Woolly Monkeys and a female Tibetan macaque were transferred from JMC to Zoorasia, leaving JMC without any Woolly Monkeys.
On another note, this means that Nasu World Monkey Park and Zoorasia are the only zoos to keep woolly monkeys in Japan.

A goliath imperial pigeon died on June 13th. They were the only goliath imperial pigeon on display at Zoorasia. From what I know of, Zoorasia's private breeding center and Saitama Children's Zoo are the only facilities in Japan to house goliath imperial pigeons. @Veno may know another place though.

Births from January to September 2024 at Zoorasia:

Red-shanked Douc (Pygathrix nemaeus): 0.1.0

Japanese Macaque (Macaca fuscata fuscata): 0.2.0

European Otter (Lutra lutra lutra): 2.0.0

Okapi (Okapia johnstoni): 0.1.0

Vietnamese Pheasant (Lophura hatinhensis): 0.1.3

Victoria Crowned Pigeon (Goura victoria beccarii): 0.0.X

At least one chick was born last year. I'm not very sure about the specifics, but I can provide the population of Crested Argus in Japan:
Zoorasia: 3.9.0
Nogeyama: 1.0.0 (Not on display)
Kanazawa: 1.1.0 (Not on display)
Kumamoto: 1.1.0
What is the founder base like? Are all current crested argus related in some way or are there multiple pairs and bloodlines, so more founders in this population?

I don't know the exact number of founders, but I believe a few birds imported around 25 years ago are the founders. The director of Zoorasia is cooperating with IUCN's ex-situ conservation efforts for Crested Argus, so Zoorasia is committed to the conservation of this species.

Bakari came in direct from White Oak to Tokyo Ueno Zoo, I think. Zoorasia as the main zoo facility to breed okapi in Japan regularly sent out okapi to either Yokohama's Kanazawa Zoo (M Kianga) and 2-3 at least to Tokyo Ueno Zoo (FF Kimbia, Kasenyi (8) as well as Bidii)!

Historically, Zoorasia had quite a large grouping of okapi (at some point even 6-7 individuals). I remember MM Hodari (b. 2001), Toto (b. 2006) and FF Bidii (b. 2000) and Lulu (b. 2003) as well as a few others....! I guess all of the ones I mentioned now will have passed away now (????). Would be nice to know what happened with these individuals!

@Veno, Are this pair (Bakari and Lala) and their July 2024 calf Furaha the only okapi left at Zoorasia now?
