Greater Grison in Captivity

Hello,

Does anyone here know of the potential of Greater Grison in captivity?

I know they’ve been in the trade for a while.

Trainability, etc?

I think Wildlife World Zoo has one, at the very least they had one recently, ZooAve in Costa Rica also had this species back in 2022.

Looking at Zootierliste, there's almost 20 zoos with Greater Grison at the moment.

I saw a Greater Grison last year at Wildlife World Zoo, Aquarium & Safari Park in Arizona and here's the exhibit:

Unless anything has changed Hamerton [UK] should have some. Though on neither of my visits did I see them.

Greater Grison is floating around in the private trade in the US, and they occasionally show up at privately owned zoos throughout the country.

Additionally, the are also kept in their native range at several zoos in Latin America.

Grison are frequently found in zoos in their native range in Latin America. They are active and attractive animals, but they are too aggressive to be kept as pets. They are not endangered.

I had the pleasure to see a Greater grison at Hamerton in April of this year. I didn't actually know or remember that they were held at the facility so seeing one was just a fun surprise.

Here are some photos from the gallery of the exhibit and species:

I've seen this species in 3 zoos; Dierenpark de Paay (Netherlands), Zoo Simon Bolivar (Costa Rica) and ValleZoo (Mexico). The former no longer keeps the species, and Simon Bolivar has since closed.
