I visited Blackpool Zoo again yesterday, and here's a few things of note:
- This visit marks the first time I've ever seen the Central American agouti that lives with the cottontop tamarins, even if it was only a brief glimpse before it disappeared again.
- Both of the Iberian wolves were out and sitting at the top end of the enclosure, by the viewing windows opposite the wallaby walkthrough. This is the best look I've ever gotten of them, and one was even howling.
- The alpacas that usually live in the Children's Farm area seem to be gone, there was no signage for them anywhere either (unless I missed it), so I'm not sure if the zoo still have any alpacas.
- Speaking of the Children's Farm, two of the pygmy goats looked very heavily pregnant, so perhaps it won't be long before we see some babies from them. Unless of course they're just fat, I don't know.
- A new small aviary has been built, opposite the rainbow lorikeets and a bit further up from the boa. It houses Javan sparrows and at least one other type of passerine bird, though I couldn't tell exactly what it was.
- The signage for the red river hogs was also gone, so I'm guessing they're not there any more? Which would be a shame, because after a few visits over the last couple of years, I've never once seen them.
- The vivarium on the top floor of the orangutans indoor viewing seems to only contain one prehensile-tailed skink, the signage for the sailfin lizard has been removed. It's still quite hard to see in there with all the condensation on the glass.
- I don't usually go around the Dinosaur Safari, so I never realised until this visit that there were fish in the water surrounding the volcano fountain. It was only as I was heading down the Project Elephant walkway that I noticed signage for common carp down there.
