UK's Largest Zoological Collections By Taxonomic Class

You're right, Pipaluk. I had problems with copy and paste. I've edited the post
Thanks, I see you have listed Hamerton as 22 which is correct, I had accounted for tiger and jackal being listed twice on ZTL but not the binturong!

While some zoos have similar numbers of species, they vary in the number of species in each order:

Carnivores: Exmoor 30; Axe Valley 25; Five Sisters 23; Hamerton, Port Lympne & Wingham 22; Chester 18; Colchester 14; Longleat 14; Marwell 12; Cotswold 11; Whipsnade & Woburn Safari Park 10; Edinburgh & London 9; Blackpool 8

Notable in this list is the number of rodents and bats kept at the Cotswold Wildlife Park and the number of diprotodontians (kangaroos, possums etc) kept at Hamerton.
That list is brilliant, thanks for providing this!

Blue Planet Aquarium is indeed the largest aquarium in the UK, and in fact the second largest zoological facility in the country behind Chester in terms of overall species. What makes this even more remarkable is that they are just 4 miles apart!

I used to cycle past both attractions on a ride to work from home in Chester and work in Ellesmere Port

As requested in this thread, here is a list of the British zoos with the largest collection of each taxonomic class (mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fishes). All numbers come from Zootierliste.

Since this has already been done for the mammals, I decided to see how the birds shaped up.

Naturally, the two wetland centres get the vast majority of their tally from waterfowl, but there's still definitely variants like with the mammals.

Is there no information about inverts? I've tried having a look on Zootierliste, but there doesn't seem to be a section for inverts - would be nice to see how they are represented in UK zoo's.

Zootierliste does not include them.

I've had a look at the zooterliste website and cannot find the section that these numbers were taken from, could anyone point me in the right direction? appreciate any help, I'm trying to research UK zoo's for my dissertation :)

Unfortunately, there is no way to find such a list on ZTL. To find a list of zoos with the most overall species, simply go to ‘Species Richest Zoos,’ but there is no such function to filter by class.

To work around that, one instead has to go to ‘Expert Search,’ select a zoo that you suspect will do well in a class, then select that class and enter. This will provide you with a list that you must manually count out. To save time, you can always copy and paste the list into a google doc and set it to a numbered list.

Please note that there are many other collections with birds in and we also have many birds of prey centers around the UK.
Zootierliste is only as good as the people who update it.
WWT are downsizing there collections at the moment and as I have asked for help in the past in updating there status on zootierliste and no one seems to have done this then I would take the lists from zootierliste as slightly out of date.
