Buffalo Zoo Future Gorilla Habitat

Hello. This is my first real post on this forum and I hope I tagged it correctly and it's in the right spot. If not, please let me know.

Does anyone have any information on the alleged upcoming Gorilla Habitat for the Buffalo Zoo? I read a news article where the new director mentioned that it would be the next big project for the zoo, but I can't seem to find any further information on the subject.

Sincerely, Bring Back the Bone Zone.

That was under Norah Fletchall's tenure, not sure if Dr. Lisa Smith will still continue those plans.

The new gorilla exhibit to my knowledge would take over the old elephant exhibit/current (?) black rhino exhibit. Honestly a smart move considering the old Bristol Zoo did something similar to a fantastic effect. I'm hopeful that they design the space to incorporate the existing mature trees and design it to be an open-topped/open-fronted space, though I can also see them doing a meshed-in space.

I have not heard of anything recent about the gorillas getting a new habitat in a while. They have been focusing on fixing things around the zoo like the paving at the entry plaza and replacing all the roofs around the zoo. Much of that work has been at least partially funded by the city. With most of this work seemingly coming to an end hopefully the zoo will work on and publish a new master plan. The Gorillas are the most in need of a new exhibit so hopefully they would be one of the first exhibits done. It is nice to see a historic zoo preservation but it's time for some new exhibits, the last major one was the renovation of the reptile house.

Couldn't agree more. We definitely need to add some new exhibits. I am desperate for any change to the current animal "lineup", and I would love if they would add something new and unusual.
