Detroit Zoo Detroit Zoo Future Ideas / Speculation Thread

After recent events with the Hangout, I feel like a renovation could be near. My ideal changes would be turning it into an African Burrowers building, moving the fruit bats to the Wildlife Interpretive Gallery and bringing back Meerkats and completely overhauling the rock python (now in the Reptile House) for Naked Mole Rats, so that we finally have a visible rodent species.

What’s our non visible rodent species? Also, I find it likely they could move the sloths and bats to discovery trails.

Beavers. 18 Years and I've never seen them once. I've seen twice more beavers at Cleveland than I've seen them at Detroit
Ha! Forgot they even existed! I was thinking omg, Detroit has a rodent? Not to brag but I’ve seen the beavers twice :p and the aardvarks five times (awake). I definitely love the new indoor aardvark habitat! I really wish the zoo could just add a viewing window for the beavers! Seems much more logical than a questionable camera.

After some talks with one of the zoo’s volunteers, she stated that there’s talks to obtain pangolins and renovate the former penguin building for something new. I hope they fix that building.
Is that where the pangolins would go?

After a visit last weekend (4/19), there seems to be multiple new habitats going up currently. The flamingo habitat has been split into two, with the rhea cage being removed. There’s a lot of construction next to the cassowary habitat in the picnic area, and something going on near the arctic picnic site. Any guesses for what could be happening?

Not sure about the arctic, but I suspect the flamingo split is for the Bush Dogs, and hope the Australia habitat is for a new tree kangaroo to replace AJ.

Might have been the North American picnic site, near the wolverines. The flamingo split I expect for the rheas and cranes, but I’d like to see bush dogs! Really hope you’re right on the Australia. I’d gladly take anything.

According to a volunteer, the first phase of the upcoming master plan will be a "reimagination" of the old penguin house. The asia and africa areas are slated to follow.
