Bioparc Valencia Bioparc Valencia News

Are there plans for his mother Rigas (or is she unrelated or too old for reproduction?)?
She is old and now that Raff (her original mate) has passed away I doubt they will try to start breeding with her, and I already think that the exhibit is tiny for three animals, can't imagine another bull in there... a pity for a sociable species.

Rigas was inpregnated for one of her sons in Viveros ( old closed zoo) many years ago, so nothing it's impossible.
But, all in all good news the arrival of a new female.

OK, thanks for clearing that up! Good all the same Bioparco is actively rejuvenating its pachyderm population and that in future there may be a chance for common hippo babies.

Bull African elephant Tooth has now officially met the females, and Tooth has even started mating with some of the cows
El nuevo macho de elefante comienza su integración en la manada
Sounds like bull Tooth is well appreciated by the cows and this bodes well for any further reproduction from a new bull, potential matings with the cows as yet not bred or mated and any future calves!

New individual and new species:
- A new male Striped hyena (Hyaena hyaena) has arrived from Zoo Bratislava, they are associating him with the female that arrived last year and are hoping to form a breeding pair, taking under account that another male hyena also is currently living at the Bioparc (Or maybe it isn't anymore, nothing has been said).
- Two Eurasian otter (Lutra lutra lutra) brothers have arrived to the park, a new species for the Bioparc! They will be exhibited on what is now the spotted-necked otter exhibit, housing the park's only individual of this species (One of the two spotted-necked otters in all European zoos as a matter of fact).
Thanks for @KEEPER for pointing this episode of "Animalades" in zoosdelmundo, otherwise wouldn't have known about these developments ;)

New individuals:
- The park received two female Mhorr gazelles (Nanger dama mhorr) and sent a male to RioSafari Elche to start a breeding group there. The park's herd had been reduced to two males and the females were sent over from ZooAquarium de Madrid to start a new breeding herd alongside the eldest of both males, with the younger male going to Elche.
It's also been confirmed that the addaxes won't coexist alongside the gazelles anymore, and it's been rumored that they will be joining the rhinoceroses, zebras, and pelicans in the Dry Savanna. The ostriches that once lived here have been moved to the Wet Savanna, now coexisting with giraffes, impalas, saddle-billed storks,...
Once again thanks to @KEEPER and @Ferni!
