Loke, former lag at Miami, has died at Shedd. Both Loke and her son (Elelo) that were moved to Shedd from less than ideal conditions at Miami have have died. I wish they could have been moved out of there sooner for a better chance. They had been in the back in the small and crumbling Pompano Pools. I recall reading that Elelo had concrete in his stomach at one point.

Yep the conditions are MSQ were just horrific. I’m sure both of them would’ve had more time if they were at Shedd sooner. I’m just glad Loke was able to spend her last year at a better facility. Regardless, Loke was an elderly individual and I’m sure Shedd did everything they could for her

Agreed. I don’t get why those “Pompano pools” weren’t demolished already.

I hope Li’i is doing alright, from what I’ve seen he’s been in presentations.

There was also minor news on Elelo; he had passed away from an injury sustained from an accidental impact in the habitat:( https://www.sheddaquarium.org/stories/mourning-loss-of-pacific-white-sided-dolphin

Yup Li’i is participating in presentations and is seemingly doing great.

Not what I expected to be the cause of death for Eleo. Very sad and hopefully changes are made in the habitat to prevent another incident like that from occurring.

Mai'a's sire is Bolt, as he is the only unrelated male to Ohana.

It's pretty much a given considering he's the only male in the entire population who is unrelated to everyone except Avalon, and conveniently he's at San Antonio. Why wouldn't they take advantage of that? Also I haven't heard of SeaWorld using AI for lags, atleast not with the living population.

Bolt was a result of AI, Arrow is his sire.
I agree it is likely Bolt is the sire of the current calf, but population lists should be updated with confirmed information, not speculation.
 
Additionally, we would be assuming that the pregnancy was planned/intentional and not accidental with one of the males related to Ohana. Best to wait until we get official confirmation since both inbreeding and AI have happened with the San Antonio lags in the past.
