Parque de Cotia (new zoo in São Paulo)

well guys, as you probably know, we heard the news about the panda diplomacy with the chinese leader xi jinping wanting to present brazil with a couple of giant pandas, i totally believe that the animalia park will be the chosen to house the pandas. what do you guys think?

Actually, Animalia park already had three giraffes (1.2.0: Bin, and the two females from BCW). The last addition was Ethema, the female from Zoo Pomerode.

About the pandas, I have to say, in my opinion, it's all still a big mystery. If I had to guess, I'd say Animalia has bigger chances of receiving them, although I'm quite skeptical about the arrival of the chinese bears to our country...

does this means that now the pomerode zoo only have 1 giraffe, or is it temporarialy because i know the zoo has some kind of a big masterplan, i do agree with that animalia park has bigger chances of receiving them, i'm also quite skeptical about this, but i totally believe that the pandas will have a worthy home in animalia park with everything suitable to house them according to their specific care and animalia will also have to plant bamboos because all zoos outside china have bamboo plantations to feed the pandas.

hey guys, great news, bin the giraffe and his mate got 2 new mates, and the park has 4 giraffes
I assume what they will end up with are mixed / generic giraffes and mixing several (sub-)specific and mixed/hybrid giraffe of no conservation value - unfortunately -.

I wonder what would happen to the national authorities' intransigence and bureacracy surrounding the pure-bred Southern African giraffe ....would be resolved! The latter would be a much better foundation to start all over and have some conservation value relevance!

No, the Pomerode zoo is left with no giraffes at all. One of the individuals that lived there died some time ago, and the last one was sent to Animalia so that she wouldn't remain alone for too long.

oh that's really sad, i hope that the zoo can receive new giraffes in the future.

Estimado Kifaru,

Animália Park currently has four (1.3) giraffes. 0.1 Ethema, from Pomerode, is a pure South African. Two (1.1) are hybrids between South African and Angolan, while the last remaining female could either be a pure-bred Angolan (if said giraffe is Savannah, the founder of the population at Beto Carrero World) or another hybrid (if said giraffe is Catarina, Savannah's daughter, Bin's sister and Anaya's mother).

It might sound cruel, but I'm hoping these hybrids pass away as soon as possible. I'd like to see Ethema in São Paulo, as all giraffes there are also pure South African.

0.2 gemsbok arriving from Olomouc, Czech Republic.

ZOO Olomouc
That's great news! We desperately needed some new blood, but unfortunately only two cows won't really help our population that much. A new pair would be the better option.

We currently have 1.2 in Cotia, 1.1 in Belo Horizonte and, perhaps, a few in Santa Inês.

My mistake it's actually 4 female oryx.
Really? The info I had mentioned 0.2.0. It's actually really great that it's actually 0.4.0. We just need more male(s) now to ensure the gemsbok population in our zoos for some good years, as we currently have a single individual able for reproduction (considering only the brazilian zoo scenario, not the breeding farms in the country)

Enzo? You were talking about the South African fur seal? Do you have additional information as to where the other seals came from in Angola (I was surprised there as I would have thought Namibia or something)?

I appreciate all your efforts!
Estimado Kifaru,

I'm sorry for not answering you! According to CITES, a South African fur seal was imported from Germany in 2021. Other eight animals were brought from Angola in 2022.

The animal from Germany plus six of the fur seals from Angola were imported with a "Z" purpose, which means they were sent to a zoo (Animália Park). The other two animals were brought with commercial purposes (what does this mean?).

The permits for the Angolan imports had just been issued by IBAMA on SISCITES. That was how I found out back then, sorry for not clarifying it previously.

NOTE: take the info currently on their website with a grain of salt. It is very outdated.
